hi guys I, got this dsm a few weeks ago, and it has been filled with sink water instead of coolant, checking the thermostat outlet it seems like everything is all rusty, i haven't open the engine, but even a new water cap i installed got all rusted in a week...

i am thinking of replacing thermostat, water pump and thermostat outlet and water cap, the question here is:

do i need to do something to clean up the interior of the engine? how can i do? is there fluid to remove rust for this kind of application?

...i appreciate the help guys, thank you ;D

Would this work for the mineral buildup/deposits left from tap water being used also?

I would give you the face of "Why would someone just put water", but Yes, the method of "reverse coolant flush" would help some to all depending on how much buildup/deposits.

I personally use Prestone 50/50 mix. I just know plenty of people that use straight tap water without giving a damn. :nono:

Yea I would flush that system out a couple times. Read the bottle and do things just like it says. Don't forget to turn on the heater when doing the flush, it's easy to forget. Then as already stated 50/50 mix of coolant/water. Burp the system... I would drive it around a couple thousand miles and then flush again and see how things stand.

Proper way to keep from getting rust is to change your coolant every 2 yrs since the coolant eventually breaks down.

True, those flush kits do wonders on ridding the system of all the rust and corrosion. Wouldn't hurt to also power flush out the radiator since sediments love to collect at the bottom. You take off the lower hose and use the garden hose and actually power flush out the radiator and it's amazing how much crud builds up at the bottom of the radiator.
