last weekend / this past week were pretty productive i guess. took a few steppes forward and only one step back-wards for the most part. finally got the transmission in place and the engine compartment about 90% done. about all that is left is hooking up the power steering, getting a couple of wire harnesses squared away, and a few miscellaneous brackets cleaned/painted and installed.
i did take a few minuets after completely stripping down the interior of the eclipse and used some of the "new looking" bolts that were from it to replace the "nasty old" bolts from the talon. i also replaced the shift linkage and installed shifter bearings in place of the rubber bushings. among other things i got the engine torn completely down for a new gaskets and to make sure i didn't mess anything up when it ran lean. i was glad to see that nothing was wrong internally and after mush painting i should be able to start putting it back together on Sunday.
my only step back-wards this week was after i pulled the carpet up. i am replacing the talon carpet with the eclipse carpet do to the fact that the shop that worked on the car last left a hole bunch of nasty dirty engine and drive train parts laying on the floor boards so the carper was totally trashed and not worth my time to clean. so i pulled the carpet and found that there had been a bit of jack-ass-ery afoot. someone at one time had removed the rear O2 (or may be installed it) by taking a pair of sheet metal shears and cut the hole in the floor up to get it out/in. i mean really if you dont know what you are doing,,,,, ASK SOMEONE....
i also found (and i suspect my two cars aren't the only ones this way) that the rear seat bracket is cracked on the outer hole, both the driver and passenger side. first i thought it was just the talon but i looked at the eclipse to see if i could pull the bracket and move it over, and noticed that the eclipse was cracked to. so i have come up an idea that might work. what i am going to do is cut a piece from the eclipse bracket and put it over the talon bracket and weld it down..... a project for another day i guess....
time for pics.......
had to do a little rust removal and clean up
