Good shocks / struts for 1g?? Dropping with Tein springs

I know when lowering a car, it's best to get adjustable shocks / struts so you can adjust the firmness of the suspension. But I am looking to just throw in a set of lowering springs and not going to be adjusting the ride height or anything.

I'm wondering what a good non-adjustable strut would be if I put in some Tein springs? I don't think an OEM strut will be able to handle the drop. I know when I had one of my old cars, I used KYB GR2's and then later found out they were pretty much a stock replacement. They went bad real quick.

What is your goal here? Road race, rally, autox, DD? In my experience a shock/spring combination is fine for the street, but won't offer any real advantage competitively speaking.
Like you said, OEM struts will guarantee failure. A lot of ppl recommend Koni shocks for the 1Gs, but I haven't tried them myself.

I had lowering springs on my MR2 without investing in the proper shock setup and ended up paying for it later.

Persionally I would just go with the whole Tien setup, and just leave it set as it comes out of the box.

Tokico blues are non adjustable, but I wouldnt recommend them. I have a set of them and they leaked after about 6k miles.

This is a DD that will see some strip use. Not going to be doing Auto-X or anything like that. I want it to be a tad bit lower, nothing crazy and not slammed. Maybe 1.5" drop or so.

I CAN get adjustables, I'm not against it...I just don't want the hefty price tag when I'm not looking for some fancy suspension.

**Tokico's aren't available for 1g's either, so that sucks...I have read a bit that the Tokico blues will work with drops.

Hefty price tag means something different to everyone Having a budget will help to narrow down what will work best for you.

I'm looking in the $300-400 price range. I really don't want to spend $500 on struts, and then another almost $200 on springs.

"Cheap that works" is probably what he means by "not a hefty price tag". I also threw on tien springs & have yet to buy shocks. Rather save my money, but if it's needed... i'll buy it.

Cheap price does not always equal ebay. Cheap quality does equal ebay. I didn't bay springs. I won't bay shocks either. But I'm not paying $400 for shocks either. Bargain prices = cheap. I'd buy koni's for $50 in working condition. Does that make them ebay?

If you feel suspension is that important to your mod list, you might want to "Not" be cheap. The long lost info you are looking for MUST be somewhere on this forum.

Upgrading the suspension isn't a top priority for me, it's just something I want done. I just ordered Avid motor mounts, I want to get the suspension work so it'll be a bit stiffer to plant as much power to the wheels as I can and then the cosmetic portion of it is just an after-effect. I want the performance before cosmetic, if that makes sense (but I'm not doing Auto-X or cornering and stuff like that)
