Ok, I've got a black GSX with Volk TE37 Bronze wheels, I think it'd be sweet to have my exhaust tip and front mount match.. Is there a good polished gold powdercoat that I could use, or could they be anodized gold? What exactly is anodizing? I know it's good for high-temp situations, but I'm not sure what it is or what goes into anodizing. I've also heard that stainless turns a nice gold when heated to ~400*, I thought I could possibly do that, intentionally. Any input/ideas are appreciated.

Thanks,
Justin

i dont know if a bronze/gold FMIC would look "right" but i'd recommend a good photoshop before you do it.

anodizing is literally "adding" a layer of colored aluminum onto your FMIC. this is probably best done by a shop that has experience with it. most people anodize so they do not effect performance with teh coloring. but some also argue that painting an FMIC will not effect the performance either. decide on your own with a good search.

as far as turning SS gold... yes it does turn gold when heated.. but it also turns lots of different colors if the heat varies [black/blue] ... i wouldn't recommend trying that. you'll most likely ruin your FMIC in your attempts.

Anodizing is just how blcknspo0ln describes it. Part is prepped first. Then cleaned and deoxidized. Then put in acid w/ electricity going through it. Then dyed if desired and finally sealed. This creates a permantely bonded hard surface to aluminum parts. It will not flake off. Can get about any color you want if the shop your working with has it or will get it. I am partnered with 2 other people in a metal finishing company that does anodizing. We even have gold. Check out the first pic for the colors we have. We also have a dark blue now. Different shades and colors can be achieved by changing the dye soak time and or soaking in multiple colors. Color fades and designs are also possible. The second pic is what we'd do if a part was too big to anodize or is made of cast aluminum (as is this case). It is a painted part with the letters bead blasted. In the 3rd pic shows anodizing but where the color didn't take there is no anodize. That is becuase that is where the wire was attached to the part to run electric through. Neat stuff... but best left to someone with experience if you don't have much patience or time. You can get more info from our website at www.blackcote.com. I'm workin on a gas lid for a guy right now in dark blue color. I hope to get the site update with pics in the next couple of weeks.
