so i am about to switch to a gm maf. my question is can i tune the car with 650s with just the translator box and a logger? i already looked through the forums but couldnt really find a straight answer, some say its okay while others say you need a SAFC. also is the translator box tuning friendly? could someone give me some input on this subject. thank you

I have a gm maf myself but i don't plan on tuning with it, i will be tuning with a safc2 i just recently purchased.
You could tune with the maf-t if you wish but you'll be better off just leaving everything at 0 and adjust the box according to the injectors you have and just leave it at that until you get an safc.
If you do wish to tune with it, just make sure you connect the white wire to an rpm signal, which on the 1g is on the cas if i recall correctly.

Im not getting a sacf nor do i have i used it, a logger is what i use, do you have a wideband? There wont be a straight answer. Tuning is something you learn with the proper equipment.

Problem with devices like the SAFC and MAF-T is that they "hide" airflow from the ECU. It thinks there is less air coming in then there really is. This will sometimes cause you to be on a different load map in the ecu, which can cause too high of timing along with some other things.
The logger will help to verify the timing and knock, but i'd recommend a wideband for dialing in the a/fs and getting a good, safe overall tune.

Typically it is said that 650cc is at about the limits for tricking the ecu with these devices. You could also get a custom eprom for the injectors you'll be running, so you're not tricking the ecu so much and just use the safc/maf-t for minor fuel adjustments and not to compensate for larger injectors.

I think for what it offers, the MAF-T GEN2 is a good product for the price. You can run any dsm maf along with the gm. It also has the "target a/f" option when a wideband is spliced in. It also has means to adjust timing and does some datalogging as well
