im thinking about doing a 3" downpipe, and making my own custom 3" exhaust with one of these

basically it will come straight off the downpipe into this muffler with a turndown.

i want to keep it as quiet as possible, but i know it will still be somewhat loud. does a longer muffler make it quieter? should i put a resonator before the muffler? 2 mufflers?

comments and suggestions welcome

If yo are just gonna have straight thru 3" with a glasspack.....it will be loud. but it will sound good. glasspacks sound good if you have at least 3" exhaust piping otherwise it will sound all choked up.

That one tapers down to 2 1/4 inches. It talks about using a decrease in piping size to speed exhaust velocity. This is not going to help you free up power. If you're doing 3" do 3"

it was just an example. and i dont think im using one of these now. i should be able to fit a regular muffler right after the end of the downpipe, and im going to do a 90deg. to a side exit

yea Ive been thinking about having just a downpipe with two resignators and then a muffler, will this be failrly quiet? (yes louder than stock, but by much?)

I've been planing on doing a DP, high flow cat, 1 or 2 resonators and just a 2 tip splitter. I'm hoping for a not-so-loud rumble below 3K. After that I don't care how loud it is.

As for the short exhaust ideas remember that you will lose ground clearance with a side exit, gain cabin noise and may not actually devrease back pressure. A well done cat-back doesn't have many bends. A side exit requires at least 1 90 degree turn.

Also, I've been told many mufflers don't hold up well to the heat that is seen so close to the engine/turbo. Not 100% on that though.

im probably not going to run any resonators. it will just be the downpipe with the s-bend, the 90degree bend and the turndown. it will actually make all the exhaust exit right infront of the rear tire. so there won't be that much cabin noise. i might run a glasspack as a resonator then a autozone turbo muffler (really quiet, close to stock) to keep the noise down.
