Girl needs help with her 1998 - 4g64 Spyder!!

Hey everyone. I have a 98 Mitsu Eclipse Spyder GS (non turbo) automatic. I'm trying to find a transmission for my car because mine went out. I'm having a hard time because the motor is so different than all the other years/hard tops. I'm sure you know it's a 2.4 SOHC 4g64 motor. The part number is F4A23-2. I bought a 02 Dodge Stratus tranny because Mitsubishi told me that it would fit...however, my tranny is on the left side and this tranny was on the right side like the 01+ mitsu eclipses. If anyone could help me, I'd REALLY appreciate it!! I haven't had any luck finding one.

No, dude she has a 4g64, and any f5m33 and f5m31 transmission will work!

2 things wrong with this, the 420 in the NA 2g's is DOHC. and the spyder was only available with the 4g64 or 4g63t.

To tsi8820. Don't talk unless you know what your saying we don't need misleading info on this board. The Chrysler 420a is a DOHC 2.0l in the NT 95-99 DSMs Also found in some dodge avengers, and dodge neons. The NT spyders have SOHC Mitsu 4g64. The turbo 95-99 DSMs came with the DOHC 7bolt 4g63t. Yes a Turbo tranny will mate with the 4g64. As far as gear ratios go Im not sure. What exactly is wrong with your Transmission.

I have a automatic tranny out of a '96 gs-t that I am trying to get rid of. I decided to do a manual conversion and now I have the old auto just sitting here. It was rebuilt about 20k ago and was outfitted with a high stall torque converter and a shiftkit that burn the tires shifting into 2nd. Email me if ## interested. The gear ratios for the turbos and nonturbos are a little different if i remember correctly.

Its quite sad how a young lady can come in here and all the guys are tripping over their 3rd leg with the wrong answers and mis information.

Shes been the only one with some solid information. Shes asking about a F4A23-2 transmission. PN is MD974426 or RMD974426 straight from Mitsubishi. Fits 96-99 Eclipses and most likely the Talons.

They list at $1,694.05 from MitsubishiParts.com but there are a couple on eBayMotors.

From what I see heres some cross reference.

Colt 1992-96 2.4L
Colt Vista 1992 - Up

Ya the f4a33 is geared at 4.153 and the f4a23 is geared at 3.625, but I have heard of people using both!

Thanks guys for all your help. BOY DID WE HAVE GUYS GIVING ME WRONG INFO. Don't ever underestimate a woman's knowledge about cars, especially coming from a Mitsubishi lover I was thinking about doing a manual conversion but it looks like I'll end up spending more money/work than I would if I just dropped an auto tranny in. I'd have to get the hydraulics - lines, reservoir, slave cylinder, shift boot, knob, clutch, linkage, etc etc etc. I'll probably end up selling my car after this and buying a 4g63t - manual OF COURSE!!!!!!! I'm tired of looking pretty but going slow hehehe I'm not sure exactly what happened with my tranny. I was on the way with my girl to Myrtle Beach from here (Gaithersburg, MD) and it wouldn't switch into 3rd. When it finally did switch the whole car bucked. I don't have reverse but I can drive the car, it's just getting over that embarrassing bucking period when it tries to switch. POOR JACOB. I can't wait to have him back up and on the road with the top down for warm weather. I've put so much blood, sweat, broken nails, etc into him that I'm just not sure if I can sell him. It will break my heart. ANYWAY, thank you thank you thank you a million!!!!
