HI, I am trying to get some nuts loose on my exhaust system and have found this, well impossible. They are waaay too tight!!! how is it done? is there any household items I can use to make them more loose possibly? Thanks

WD-40 let it soak for a bit and place a metal tube on to the end of the ratchet your using this will give you more leverage when loosing the nut and you can use both hands I use the floor jack bar sometime or if you have a bigger ratchet it should pop right off :thumb:

Exhaust nuts and bolts are a pain cause of the rust and corrosion. My advice would go buy some PB Blaster and let it soak for a few hours and if that doesn't do anything you might have to heat them up and or cut the nuts/bolts. :thumb: Be sure to replace the old bolts/nuts with new ones.

would a candle flame work for the heat? (no, im afraid im not kidding)
If you don't have a torch than go down to the hardware and get a cheat propane torch kit. The buy a map gas tank cause it gets a little hotter and heat it with that. It will take you a little longer but it will help. Don't try to heat the whole nut but instead just one spot so the nut will expand and that should get you loose. Works very well for stuck brake bleeders as well. Good luck with it and if it helps please remember to rate the post. Thanks. :thumb: :dsm:

I personally choose PB over WD any day. WD stand for "Water Displacement", and never really seems to break things free. PB on the other hand, is thicker and works better, for me.

Just use the PB and an impact bar .The guy said household item's not monster garage items you guy's ...hahaha if that fails which it shouldn't put the blow torch to it just ask your dad for one he might keep it under the sink :tease:

I use the MAP gas brazing kit with the oxygen tanks, straight propane or MAP gas don't really get hot enough for rust welded exhaust bolts and nuts. There have been plenty of times I wished for a real welding torch because the even with oxygen the MAP gas wasn't getting the job done.

Clearly a candle isn't going to do anything but make you look silly.
