I'm looking for a fuel pump upgrade before I crank up my boost. I was checking for 255 pumps on eBay and came across these:

255 LPH FUEL PUMP Mitsubishi Eclipse 96 97 98 99 00 c:eBay Motors (item 280419498562 end time Dec-05-09 04:34:52 PST)

Has anyone tried these pumps out or seen test data on them? If you're just going to tell me they are crap without any actual evidence to back it up keep your comments to yourself. I'm looking for real knowledge here not unfounded biases or "Dude just get a Walbro" comments, thanks :)

Great so now they are making fake 255's now. There was ebay bb turbos then ebay Holsets and now ebay walbros. Why they are not making ebay smim I will never know. Anyway I don't know anyone using one but you can buy a used wally for the same price.

You honestly dont want to spend 100 dollars on a legit walbro pump... 50 more bucks..

Dude, I trust nothing on e-bay...a brand new Walbro is under $100...just do it right, you'll feel better about it

Like others have said.. I know you said you don't want to hear comments from people that haven't tested them, and I'm not directing this at you personally, but these are the kind of things that give our cars the bad rep. we have with being so unreliable because people buy this kind of crap. I'm not saying that these pumps aren't good. But seriously, there's a reason that the Walbro is $100 and that pump you linked to is only $50. You get what you pay for.

On another note. The pump itself on the outside looks good. I would be interested in seeing some testing on the pump also. Maybe you could email RC Engineering or a supporting vendor and ask then to do some testing on it?

Nothing like playing Russian Roulette with your motor because you didn't want to spend the extra 25 to 50 bucks on a legit Walbro. I took a look though your thread on TGC and the Galant is cool. I see where you like to do things yourself to save a few bucks here and there and came out on top. Trusting your baby to a fake Walbro (they ARE *fake* walbros) just seems like a bad idea. If it was a knock-off chinese 3" SS exhaust that's one thing, but something as vital as a fuel pump?!?

I agree with some of the stuff here metioned. But I run an ebay FMIC along with probably 50 percent of the others on this site with great results. On the other hand though your fuel pump goes well bye bye engine. Just some food for thought. I run other knock off parts too like my external wastegate (ssac) which hold boost fine. But when it comes to fuel parts its name brand proven parts.

It may perform well, but for how long?

If you drive your car 7 miles a week then I'd have no problem installing one of these pumps if I were in your shoes....but you know damn well there's going to be an instance where you want to take your car on a 300-mile trip and the pump is going to give out on mile 295 of continuous use. Brand-name pumps are still inexpensive, trustworthy, and proven reliable.

However, here's some food for thought- if I were forced to buy one Chinese part for my car, it would definitely be some type of electronic device. The Chinese seem to have all their ducks in a row when it comes to electronics. The wireless adapter on my notebook (and probably most of my notebook's internals), my cell phone, my electronic toothbrush....pretty much any modern electronic device I use on a daily basis is made in China, and seems to work quite well.

I had to laugh (and roll my eyes) when I came back to read this. I knew this is what would happen... (BTW - eBay is not a parts manufacturer).

Cory, thanks for the compliment on my car, it was a lot of hard work building it and I have no intention of grenading my motor no matter how badly I want to build the 2.4 I have in the garage. Justin, thanks for pointing out most of the electronics we all own came from China and work fine.

So... does anyone actually know anything about these pumps?

I've had two friends that have burned up fake Walbro fuel pumps, and there are many more instances from some of my aussie pals over on team4g.net who have had similar experiences. I've had a Walbro 255 in my 1G since late '03, and it ran like a champ.

Thank you, that information was more along the lines of what I was looking for.

dude, just get a walbro...haha

I wouldn't risk something that could ruin your motor. Ebay exhausts, fmic, etc are good to go. Maybe look into an evo9 pump, can be had for 25 shipped.

I've seen real walbros go for $70. Why bother with chinabay crap.

Just stick with the walbro or an oem denso like the supra tt or evo8/9 depending on how much power you're looking for.

stay away from ebay stuff if it's less than $100. Just get something you know is reliable and has a proven rep from people that have tried it over and over again. I'm not saying its bad but if it does go bad then you'll end up spend double what ever you would have spent if you just done it right the 1st time....

Thank you!

My friend had a mostly stock 92 GSX that he drove for about two years back in 04/05, his crank pulley separated and he got some parts store replacement for $70 when I told him to just go to Mitsu and get one for $100. Well the "new" one came apart on him a few months later and he over heated the engine. To this day he still talks bad about DSM's.

Without any personal experience, I bought one of these for 50 bucks during the black friday sale from Forced Performance:

Forced Performance Turbochargers: Forced Performance 255lph Fuel Pump

I havn't used it yet nor could I find any review on it on our site, but I would pay 10 bucks more than ebay and go with a FP banded pump.

Just food for thought. (and discussion? :) )

I would trust forced performance over ebay knockoff any day!
I actually gave away my stock evo9 pump. I swapped in a walbro and have been running them ever since. I know someday when I switch over to e85 I will be going full blown double pumper setup...walbro all the way.
I run a walbro in my eclipse too and have been since 2000, not a problem since and maybe 50k miles later!

Think about this.... would you use a chinese knockoff/made condom with a prostitue? Didn'tthink so. Cheap insurance, get the real stuff!
