ok i ve been rading in the n20 forum for a while but there are still a few questions that i havent been able to find clear answers on.

im looking to buy either a dry or wet kit, starting off witha 50 shot. eventually id like to end with a 75 setup when im comfortable.

i read in a few posts that you can squeeze in 1st gear at any rpm, but ive also heard that first gear is a no-no and that you dont want to use it at too high of an rpm because it will keep going and damage your engine.

ive also been told that you dont use it in neutral/clutch pushed in.

id like to clear up the bs that i may that i might have heard.

my plan is that id like to be able to squeeze when i go into 2nd gear as well as 3rd. but if can id like to use it in first at about 3500 rpms where my power picks up alot and then take ti to redline and squeeze in 2nd gear and so on.

any knowledge is appreciated, and if there are any posts/websites with more definitive information that would aid in my search it would be much appreciated. ive read the stickys as well as quite a few posts so far. thx. :dsm:

those are the exact questions i want to know also :p so all u nitrous people chime in!

why would you ever want to do something like that, spraying in neutral would probably just shoot you into the red in about half a second

the biggest thing about spraying in certain gears is making sure you engine has the ability to climb. obviously, you dont want to spray in 5th gear since it lasts forever, and you dont want to spray too early on in 4th or 3rd even. second is too short really and first is even shorter. if the engine can't climb the rpms easily, then the compression will be too high and kaboom.

this is what i've continuously read and yet to see anything contradictory from somone with real knowledge/experience.

i think you should be ok spraying through the entire first gear after you get off the line to avoid just spinning the tires.

I always recommend a wet kit because they make more power with the same amount of nitrous. I have been there done that on the dyno with both wet and dry and over and over this seems to be the case.

You can pretty well spray in 1st gear anywhere you want 1000rpm even. As soon as you spray the RPM is going to shoot straight up so it really makes no difference. This will work pretty well the same in 2nd gear, but 3-5th is another story., Keep the spraying above 3000rpm. When you shift (auto or not) it will fall above 3000rpm so it doesn't matter.

ve also been told that you dont use it in neutral/clutch pushed in.

Guys with automatic V8's power brake with nitrous but it doesn't last long as so much power is built up but that is technically nitrous in neutral more or less. On your car there would be no purpose to spray in neutral. This would only be possible if you had the system armed and you put the gas right to the floor anyway which you pretty well never should do. The only time this would really happen is if you power shift (leaving the gas all the way to the floor and not letting up off the gas during the shift so you would bounce the rpm off the rev limiter during your shift) and you shouldn't do that with nitrous though some do and have no ill effects. (still not recommended.)

my plan is that id like to be able to squeeze when i go into 2nd gear as well as 3rd. but if can id like to use it in first at about 3500 rpms where my power picks up alot and then take ti to redline and squeeze in 2nd gear and so on.

If you spay in 1st you will do nothing but spin the tires, and when you shift it will come back on right away so you will spin 2nd probablly a bit. Spraying 1st is for when your running slicks. Once you shift from 1st to 2nd at redline you will be wayyy over 3000rpm so you can spray as soon as your done the shift and all the way through the rest of the gears no problem. You wouldn't want to start spraying in 5th gear at 3000rpm particurarly because the motor has very little ability to rev fast (beacuse of low gearing) so shifting down to 4th on the highway and spraying there till redline then though 5th would be a better idea if your racing on the highway or whatever.

Yeah for some good info and do's and dont's check http://www.nitrousexpress.com/Pages/faq.htm and read the whole page start to finish that will give you a pretty good idea of whats up...

thanks thats pretty much all the info i need. ill be back in here when i get a wet kit. prolly to get advice on the inhstall. you know of any writeups with pics on a wet kit install on ouir cars? :dsm:

also when you squeezse does it only last the duration of the button press or des the button press set out n20 for a set about of time?

Nitrous kits do not run from buttons. As a matter of fact I don't think a kit commercially available comes with button activation.

Nitrous is used like this. You have an arming switch. You turn this on to give power to the relay so the relay "CAN" give power to the solenoids to open, but arming it does not do so. Only allows the power to be there. Just like it says, it arms the system so it's operational, thats all.

You also have a throttle micro switch. This is a switch that is mounted off a little bracket (supplied) that when your throttle body swings all the way open something will hit the switch (like the throttle body arm or whatever) which tells the relay to give power to the solenoids to spray nitrous. If your arming switch is off then no power will be there nothing will happen, if your arming switch is on and you go wide open throttle (so the mirco switch is now activated) then nitrous will spray.

Generally what happens is most people are at wot already (so micro swich is on) and they just arm the system starting the flow of nitrous/fuel right away. So you basically switch it on, and when you let off the gas (micro switch is now off) the nitrous stops. Now you can just jump right back on the gas again (say after a shift) and because your arming switch is still on as soon as you go wide open throttle the nitrous will start right back up. That is how it shuts off when you shift.
