gasoline smell

im changing my valve cover and i took off the oil cap, and it smells like gasoline in there, is this bad?

All our engines have "blowby" which is unburnt fuel, oil vapor passes by the piston rings and accumulates in the crankcase and is evacuated by the PCV and VC breather. This is likely what you smell.

BTW.. what does you oil look like?
