Ever since i got the car i've had a problem with this and it is really annoying. My gas gauge works.. but acts weird. For some reason the empty is the quarter mark. I'll fill the tank up and it goess all the way up. Works fine and then around quarter of tank the fuel light comes on. Another weird thing is, if i let the car idle sometimes it will drop almost a half a tank. But as soon as i start going and moving somewhere it jumps up to where it was. This a normal thing for dsms? I know the gas gauge isn't though. Any suggestions?

My gas gauge works fine...except for when the tank is completely full, it will never go to the full line. The highest it will go is halfway between the full and quarter line. Everything else works just fine though. I know for a fact it should reach the full line because I overfilled it once and gas spilled out of it.

I had an issue like alot of you are having, where when i'd fill my gas tank, the gauge would only go up to just below the 1/2 mark. the issue was the sending unit in the tank...who ever did the fuel pump(before I bought the car), didn't put it in right. there are 2 marks that need to line up. one on gas tank, and one on the top of the sending unit. on my 2g awd, I'm able to just pull the back seat out, and take off the metal cover to see the sending unit...use a screw driver and a hammer to loosen the big plastic ring nut that holds the sending unit tight to the tank. then turn the sending unit to re-align the two marks, tighten the plastic ring nut back up(using the screw driver and hammer again)...make SURE that the nut is tight(I didn't have mine tight enough the first time around, and would actually leak ALOT of gas if I filled the tank over half).

but you can just check your marks by pulling that metal plate off under the rear seat, and if they don't line up...that's the problem. if they are lined up, then I don't know what the problem is. hope this helps you!!

I have the same problem.. After I did my fuel pump install it started to happen. I dont want to bother fixing it because i ripped the oil ring gasket holding down the white cap. So now i just fill up at 1/4 tank mark. I would say if you want take out you fuel pump sending unit and see if changes from there.
