I have a few quick questions about the top replacement kits for a G2 Spyder that can be found on eBay. I'm sorry if these are really basic but I don't know too much about cars and I did search before I posted so I don't think I'm re-hashing old questions.

- The kit comes with "side tension cables". Are these the cables that fix the well known problem where the control arm bends over time? I have seen the cables go by several different names here and on other web sites and want to make sure I'm getting what I need so the control arms don't bend again.

- I am going to assume that the sheer pins in the top's motors are broke. I have seen posters that say they use a nail or something from Home Depot to replace them. Is there some type of official replacement I can get? I would like something that is made to the original specifications.

- Is there anything I'm missing? I found a local trim shop that will do the install if I provide the eBay replacement kit. Assuming I want to replace the whole top, are there any parts that the eBay kit won't provide (except the headliner) and are there any gotchas I should watch out for?

Thanks in advance for the replies. You have a great community of very smart people here and I look forward to someone taking a few minutes to help a newbie out.

I have heard that those kits come complete with everything needed to replace the tops. I am going to get one soon. Haven't heard anything bad from them. Good Luck man

I haven't searched ebay recently but last time I bought a top, the sellers on ebay were the same companies and same product, at similar prices, you will find searching the net. I've bought two tops from one of these sellers: topsonline. The tops were good quality and marked for easy installation.

The side cables are not related to the floating bow links.

Thanks for the info Wert. I am going to print out your writeup ("the dog collar method") and see if the guy at the shop can do it. If not I'll call the dealer and check the price on a strap kit.

Anyone have any info on the specifications of the sheer pins?
