When we bought our Eclipse back in 2013, we got it off an impound lot for only $800. We had to add ether to make sure she actually ran. The fuel pump was rusted out and some wires got crossed. Turns out B.B. was in a major accident in her first year of life and was made a salvage title. The guy who lost it to impound left his green card in our trunk! We didn't even realise her exhaust had been modified. So she be frontin' a little by ear, but with Mama driving I dont need any mods to take flight on everyone. We just had to replace the fuel pump again last month, we know there are electrical issues but the right schematic is elusive. We have put so much $$$ into this whip & earned her title upgrade to "re-built." thx to my pension & my husband's talent! He starts school for certifications soon, mechanics is his true love, gives him peace! Previous owner obviously took this baby baha'in all over, still havent gotten the suspension quite right. Even took it in to professional alignment shop and they did their best but worn parts prevent ideal results. Has anyone else had tempermental fuel pumps like us? Is there a solution besides the kill switch we had to wire up or the pump would keep running when the car was off(high- pitch whining under the backseat!)?

The wiring was fried initially & we had to rig up a direct wire from the battery to the pump just to get it working; only trouble is that without adding the kill-switch(& remembering to use it leaving the car) the pump wanted to keep on running all alone, under the backseat with everything else off. So the wire that time, I think we had to cannibalize some from a discarded wire harness left in the truck by others when they switched out the stereo.. Sometime later My Man used some new wire he has & rewired without the kill switch; I actually preferred it; like an extra, clever, anti-theft system. Most thieves wouldn't be able to figure out why it won't turn over. just last month car wouldn't turn over when D tried to leave for work. He has to buy the entire fuel pump assembly. But he got it done quick since he already knew what was up. He showed me that the wires into the fuel pump were fried extra-crispy! We have 5 kids so we really cant keep throwing money into the car fixing the same stuff. When it should definitely have performed for many years without incident. For a while I called her Yellow B***h, convinced we had another lemon. I don't mind fixing and maintaining my vehicles and such, it's only logical;; what I don't like, is replacing the same things over and over. He is doing awesome & learning as he goes, for sure. I just wonder sometimes if he should do more research before he starts new projects, it is possible that installation factored into recurrent repairs...

If you are just running voltage to the pump.. You can run a relay back there and use an ignition on source to turn the relay/pump on if the factory wiring is no longer in place all you'd have to run back there is an ignition on wire. you could even still wire up a kill switch for the fuel pump.

Look up 2g fuel pump rewire that'd be your best bet I think instead of chasing down your electrical short, or run a new set of wires to the oem locations n pull the factory wiring out while you do it.
