Hey guys my bros girl friend just picked up a 92 eagle talon awd the other day. Anyways the kicker is it has been sitting for at least 7 years. Anyways we changed the oil which I have never seen oil that black before, spark plugs, plug wires,a battery, and some gas. Anyways we put some oil in the cylinders and turned the engine over. Sounds really good and turns over freely. We put the plugs and and its turning over but not firing. I don't think we are getting fuel. The gas tank was bone dry. So I am thinking the fuel pump is shot since it does not sound like its priming up. Is there anyway to hot wire the pump to see if it will turn on? Also when we turn the key on I hear 2 loud clicks coming from under the hood. Is that normal? Oh and we found out that we got a 6 bolt engine with the 4 bolt rear end in a car with 113k miles. Plus it does not have a spec of rust on it.

You can access the pump by pulling the back seat out - wires are easy to get @, throw some power to it. They arent bad too change and not too expensive, replacing it (esp if original) would be good.
Those clicks when you turn the key to 'on' is the IAC motor I believe, mine gives me a few 'hello clicks' every startup.

can't you get to the pump by lifting the carpet that covers the spare tire and then removing the plate on the left side of the car.

The fuel pump doesn't run when you turn the key on, you have to be cranking or have the engine running. Just pull the small wire off the starter (takes 5 seconds), and hold the key in the start position; you'll hear the relay click and hear the fuel pump run.

I agree, removing the back seats the easyest way to get to the pump

The back seats have nothing to do with accessing the fuel pump on a 1G AWD, as the fuel pump access cover is in the back left corner of the trunk. 2G AWD's are under the back seat.

^^^^ that is what i was thinking but i didn't know if there was that BIG of a difference between a 90 and a 92 TSI.

your going to have to remove the spare tire and open the access port in the back then you will be able to get at the fuel pump and its wires. and of course the pump turns on when the key is on before you start it has to prime. has no one ever heard a walbro pump its a very obvious sound

Yeah we have access to it already. We had to pull the whole interior out to clean it becuase it was just that dirty. The interior changes from brown to black as we clean it. I found a guy selling a stock fuel pump out of a 90 gsx for 15 bucks. That should fit with no problem right. As for now we are on a budget to just get the car running. Mods will come later as we get some more income. We can try to jump the pump when we get back to the car as we are over 100 miles away at college.

I don't think the pump will work. I tried to put a pump from my brothers 92 GSX in my 90 TSI and they were different pumps.

yeah looking at new ones from autozone and such there are two different pumps for a 92 car. The first one is just like the 90 model one and the other is different. So I guess we would have to pull the pump and look at it.

The differnce in pumps may have to do with whether your engine is a 6 or 7 bolt. 92 is the year when the engine was changed over. There should be a 92 and a 92.5 or something like that. So this guy with the pump may have the right one if it is from early on in 1992.

Just my thinking.

well we have a 6 bolt engine so the 90 fuel pump will work just fine then. Found out we had a 6 bolt when we did the oil change since the filters are different and ours matched the 6 bolt one.
