1G Fuel pump rewire from inside console panel

I'm looking to do a fuel pump rewire to my Eclipse GS -91 N/T FWD. Can't I simply connect the relay to the black/green wire directly from the MPI instead of at the back near the pump? In that case I dont need to hide the wire all along the car and don't need to worry about isolating the relay as it would be on the outside.
