Car- 420a GS Automatic

Symptoms-
-Car turns over but takes multiple tries to start sometimes.
-When I prime the pump a few times it will start but then die immediately.
-After multiple tries it starts and runs fine)
-When driving sometimes the car will seem like it is about to die but then return to normal, the observed incident is a sharp jerk in the acceleration.
-Sometimes when I start the car it will feel like shit when revved for about 3-4 seconds then return to normal.

Sometimes the car starts and runs fine the first try.
The problem seems to not be related to the temperature of the car because tonight after the car was warmed to op temp, turned off, and turned back on 20 minutes later, it took multiple tries.

Is the problem Fuel pump?

If the above is an indication of a bad fuel pump and/or filter, where is a good place to get a fuel pump for a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance.

Try this..when u crank the car over have someone to hit the gas tank a couple times with something like a mallet or brick. if it starts because of the hitting it means ## fuel pump is gone.

I'll try that. How hard is it to replace the fuel pump?
I heard it can be done without dropping the tank?
Is it true that the pump can be taken out from under the backseats?

pull the back seat out and pop the cover off. Then disconnect the in and out lines and pull the pump out. It might take 15 mins, real easy job

Thanks for the reply, that makes me think my problem lies in the fuel system even more.
I plan to change that when I change the pump. My mechanic checked the filter about a year ago and said it wasn't too bad so I assume its the pump and not the filter. But like I said, I will just replace both.

If you're gonna do both just try the filter first. It may be the problem and it will save you some money. If it doesn't fix it then get the pump.

Thanks, I will replace the filter first.

So.. Based on the responses from everyone, you are all leaning towards a fuel problem too?

Update 12/21

I noticed that when it does not start, I can't hear the fuel pump buzz when I turn the ignition on before trying to start the car.

I read that this can be the fuel pump going out, but it could also be the relay, can anyone tell me where the relay is? I have the tools to test the relay.
