I installed a SAFC-II on my car(90 gsx) and about a week after I got a check engine light and the car started Hard starting when cold(I had to crank it atleast 30 sec to a min just to get it to run rough). so I started thinking and decided it was a leaky injector flooding out a cylinder. well I pulled the fuel rail and primed the fuel system with all lines hooked up and #3 started dripping. I replaced the fuel injector and now all of a sudden my 2 3 coil stopped firing so I'm running on 2 cylinders, I replaced both coil packs with used ones off a running car and the one coil still isn't firing. so I can't see if it even was an injector problem. anyways I started throwing wrenches so I decided to take a break and see if you guys had some input

thanks vinnie

Do you have a datalogger? Pull the CEL code and see what it says. My guess is that it will either be a CAS or ECT failure. The ECT wouldn't have anything to do with your 2-3 coil going out, but it would explain the hard starting.

Edit:
Might want to pull the ECU and check for capacitor leakage. That'll cause all kinds of "fun" problems, like random no-spark.

thanks for the response...

I already tried un-splicing the afc from the air flow signal but I was dumb and did it at the same time as I replaced the injector

yes it ran fine for the first week after the afc I didn't even get a chane to play with the fuel parameters yet.

I don't know why but I've never been able to get my data logger to work on my 90 and I tried pullin the code with an analog volt meter and got nothing the needle never even moved.

as for the leaky injector yeah it was definitely coming from the pintle and not the upper injecor seal.

And the wires were connected correctly all the readings in monitor mode were fine.

I was also running the jdm ecu and tried switching it out with the usdm and no change

thanks

You might need a Powered cable. www.pocketlogger.com sells them, but you can find them on eBay occasionally for a bit cheaper.
The 1990 ECUs are notorious for this -- some of them just don't work unless you have the powered cable (the cable with the extra power wire that runs to the fuse box).

With KOEO, does your CEL come on for ~5 seconds, and does your stock boost gauge read 0? How were you checking the ECU with the analog voltmeter (i.e. what pins were you connecting to on the diagnostic port)? If you aren't able to get a "heartbeat" from the ECU, that's cause for concern.

yeah I was using the powered datalogger cable... it works on my 92 fine...

the CEL come on for ~5 seconds yes and then goes out till I run the engine, with the key on the boost gage goes to 0

I was worried about the ecu being the cause of no heartbeat thats why I replaced it but still no heartbeat I guess I'm leaning towards wiring

thanks for helpin

I would be leaning towards wiring at this point, as well.
If your ECU is booting up but doesn't have a heartbeat, there's something going on there.

Here's a link to the 1g pinout for the ECU, which might help. http://vfaq.com/mods/ecu-harness-1G.html

Sorry, wiring harness is not really my thing so that's about all the help I can offer here....Steve, come help this guy! LOL.
