The car is a 1995 Eclipse RS. Lately I have been hearing this howling noise coming from the front passenger wheel. The noise goes away when I make right hand turns or go into right hand curves, and when I get straight again the noise comes back and is constant.

What do you think, does this sound like a wheel bearing is going bad? How do you replace them is there a VFAQ or can anybody help me with that? Lastly where do you get replacement bearings, do places like pep boys or advance carry them?

Thanks

A good way to check wheel bearings is to hold the tire, with the tire off the ground, and try and move it. Grab the tire on top and bottom and pull one end while you push the other. If the bearing is bad you will feel it. I would also pull the wheel and do the same test while holding onto the brake rotor (you’ll need to zap on a couple of nuts to snug down the rotor). Replacement is easy, the bearing comes as a sealed unit held in place by 4 easily accessed bolts. You will have to pull the axel half shaft from the hub to remove the bearing. I would get mine from a Mitsubishi dealer, try one of the online places like Norco.
