LoLOLoLOL. I remember those. This kid out here had one on his Civic. Ricer all the way. He had the Z3 fenders, roof scoop, and the hood with the dual scoops as well. I wish I had a picture of it. :tease:
 
^Agreed. If you want performce from that 420a , come see us in Des Moines :) We can make it so you NEED an Intercooler B)

My new pass time : Lauch control at light when im next to some one with an interfooler LOL.
 
Ive seen something similar to the FMAI LOL. But it was a legit intercooler setup however the side of the core that connected to the compressor housing had a 4" filter connected to it.
 
I put a long route CAI down into the bumper on my ex-wife's 2001 Galant ES-V6 and it seemed slower. I can imagine a small displacement engine will struggle to breathe with that much piping and crap to have to draw air through. I switched to the short route K&N FIPK and it was much better.
 
An intercooler helps to counter the heating effects from turbo compressed air... for example: ambient air temps are 70F and then it gets compressed from turbo and heats up to 100F (i'm not sure what the actual intake temps get up to), then the intercooler brings it back down to 85F. hypothetically speaking. Cooler air is denser and you can get more fuel and air into each cylinder = more power.

Non turbo cars suck the air straight into the engine, and its already as cool and it can get, unless your sucking in hotter air from the engine bay, then just relocate your air filter.

I've always wondered if you can use the air conditioning system of the cars to cool the intake air below ambient air temperature, but I'm sure its hardly effective, and there are probably better ways.

Maybe for a drag run, just pack your intercooler with ice and salt, should help but is it legal?
 
If you plan on boosting all the info and questions you will ever ask have pretty much been covered between here and 2gnt.com... Get on the forums and just read for about a month or so and take in all the info you can, then decide if you want to boost it... It is a long expensive road for most ( like myself) but I wouldnt trade if for anything!
 
^X2 it IS a long and expensive road to do it right. and theres TONS of info here, Just search.
 
Either have a seperate DD if you decide to turbo your 420 or have a open schedule, good friends, and extra cash. Don't make the mistake of attempting to turbo your car in a weekend. As for the FMIC, as was said, useless for now and should be one of the final things on your list for turbo parts. FMIC is an extra perk, not a necessity

IMO, there are cheaper and easier ways to get a boosted car.
 
1. change platform or 2. cheap, reliable , fast, pick cheap.. It all depends on his goal, If he just wants a "boosted" car, then ya go buy a POS GST. done. You want somethin unique and more reliable, your going to have to pay for it..

Agreed, but you have a 420a and an auto to start with, both negative's. My recommendation would be to save your money, keep your GS stock or lightly modded (intake/exhaust) for reliability, and save up for a 4G63 or something else.

Just a side note, OP, have you thought about after you boosted it? Yes you are going to see a nice power increase but what after that? You just dropped $2000 (roughly) on boosting this 420a and now you are at peak power until you build another block with forged internals, which ends up being MORE money down the drain... Just keep your reliable auto 420A and invest your cash into a nice platform.

Hahn Racecraft makes a good FMIC for the 420a platform, expensive but good! but you should look out for people parting out and get a whole FMIC and pipes for a decent price! Honestly you can get a universal FMIC, just mounting and running the pipes is the true task. As I said, Hahn's is expensive but mounts to already pre-made holes and have to dremel a bit, but bolts on and has pre-made pipes.
