so i have a 96 eclipse rs and one of my controll arms are bad and it makes my car shake really bad so i need to fix them but we have another rs thats a 96

my question is can i use the arms off of any 96 rs or do they have to be brand new to my vin number because thats what mitsubishi told me...... sorry if this is confusing

First there was a recall on the LCA. If you haven't had the recall done Mits should give you new ones. Second, all 2G LCA are the same and you can swap them.

There are 2 recalls on the lower control arms.

Not sure both are still current...In 1999 I had the first recall done. It covered the boots of the ball joint and if there was play or leaky boots the arm was replaced.

Around 2000 I received another recall on the lower control arms. It basically covered the same as the 1st but added some kind of sealant if no leaks or play was found.

I just had the second recall done and dealer replaced both lower arms with ones that had some kind of sealant on the bottom of the ball joint.

They had a really hard time on one because the outer bolt on one was frozen solid. They some how got it out and all is good now.

Call your dealership and give them your vin...they will tell you if a recall is still in affect for your car. Ball joints are attached to the control arms and come as a unit. If you had LCAs replaced than you lower ball joint was replaced too. NOT the upper one.

If you are talking about the front end there is another control arm on the rear side of front suspension....it is not covered by the recall.

Was your car lowered. Because I went 2 weeks ago and they told me that they could not work on it because the suspension voided the recall.
