i ordered a bse kit that came with the factory rubber plug and i'm getting ready to install it. my question is should i install it with rtv or should i not use it and buy the appropriate size freeze plug for the hole and jb weld it in? i'm afraid if i use the rubber one with rtv it will leak or fall out soon after. and if i use the rubber one does the rubber side go in?

Use a 35mm stainless steel freeze plug from advanced auto. Install it like the freeze plugs on your block. That would be the cap side in. put jb weld around the inside of where the plug will be inserted into. Then put it around the outside walls of the pump and freeze plug to insure it from blowing out.

No need to buy a differen't one.. Just jbweld the rubber one in like i did.

well i do have a 35mm freeze plug. i didnt realize it till just now but i had the machine shop replace mine then i got some with my rebuild kit so i have extras. besides can youu jb weld rubber?

Instead of using a plug, has anyone welded the hole shut? I figure this would be the most failproof way to seal the hole. Any issues with welding it shut?

Other than warping the sealing area (front case has a lot of sealing area, so it's pretty easy to develop a leak) from welding, none.

Use the rubber plug, it'll be fine. Use a thin coat of RTV around the lip of it, and make sure it gets installed so it's sitting evenly in the case.
