Well I have been answering a lot of questions about internal engine specifications. I thought that I might pull some information directly out of the Mitsubishi Service Manual for 95-99 (I was lucky to get my hands on the full set). With that being said some of the stuff might not be accurate. Mainly the things that changed for the 6 bolt engine to the 7 bolt engine ex./ rod torque specs
I will start off with saying this is for stock engines. Engines that have been built with forged internals come with there own specs.
Lets start with piston stuff first
OEM ring gap (measure with feeler gauge)
top ring - .0098-.0138 service limit-.031
middle ring -.0157-.0217 service limit-.031
oil ring -.0039-.0157 (never file oil rings)
The service manual actually states a 21mm wrist pin bore which it is actually a 22mm so this book might have been written before the wrist pin change.
Piston to wall clearance (measure with caliper on piston and bore gauge on cylinder) - .0012-.0020 with no stated service limit
Next up has to deal with rods and crank
Crankshaft end play -.0020-.0071 service limit .0098
Crankshaft journal oil clearance (plastigauge/caliper this number ) - .0008-.0020 service limit .0040
connecting rod nut toque specs- 14.5 lbs + 90* turn (Now if you are reusing your stock rods without having them reconditioned with new hardware you must not use this method)
I will sit down and make some more informational tech threads in the near future.
