Fog light removal

ok i went to do the fog light mod but the heads to the screws are stripped :thumbdown ....what do u think i should do?

I think you should keep your foglights, but I won't go there.

Try the screw removers that Craftsman makes, but you're probably going to have to drill them out. Try PB Blaster, too.

If you got "any" of the screws to come out check the diameter of them. Get a drill bit that is just slightly larger and drill in the center of the screw head. Once you get past the head you can slip the lense off and remove the housing. This is what I had to do. Then without damaging the wiring you can add a smaller set of aftermarket ones if you desire, hooked up to the stock switch. It took all of about 10minutes to remove both lights, but I got once screw out without drilling in each side. Once the bracket is out you can soak it with penitrating oil and use visegrips to remove the left-over part of the screw.

VERY EASY TO DO.

You might not want to do this but you could unbolt the brackets that the fog lights screw too. There are two bolts per bracket, and one of them is a nightmare to get out. I believe they are 10mm. You may have to break a piece of your fog light housing to enough room to get at the bolts with your hand. I got one side unbolted when I found out I wasn't going to get the other side off. I had no choice but to find a way to get the other one off. After my experience, I say keep yours on.

One of the bolts is inside the fog light. If I remember corrctly. The drill bit will get hot, that's why you need to spray it with some kind of oil. The oil cools the bit and then it stays sharp.

The screws that hold the Lenses on are Stainless Steel - PITA to drill - then the lenses are kinda glued on to boot - If you put it up on Car Ramps you can come from underneath, move some Ducts & you will have better luck with the Fog Lite Bracket Mounting Bolts - still a PITA - I moved mine for a little better flow to Oil cooler & Intercooler, then spliced the existing harness to new smaller - relocated Fogs which I agree you DO need with the POS Stock Headlights - see my gallery for pix.

Stanless steel is only grade 4. It shouldn't be that hard to drill. I got mine out in about 10-15minutes with some oil on the bit. Maybe a little longer. Then again, as much rust as I had on my "stainless steel" bolts make me wonder what the hell quality they really are.

Are those 1g pop up headlights worse than the fixed 92-94 headlights? I don't really mind my 92 headlights that much, I took the time to adjust them against a wall.

nothing's wrond with my lights but i just want more flow to the smic ( isn't it one of those preciouse free mods?)...just wondering why everyone is asking why....

I don't have proof, but I'd bet you get more flow around the foglight than the intercooler can pass at any speed over twenty. Then again, I drive fast at night through deer-infested environs, so I'd not consider removing any lighting. It's a behavioral shortcoming on my part, only one of many.

I took a pair of visegrips, and a small pick hammer and ####ing broke mine into a ton of peices then unbolted the brackets

Worked good.
