I'm not sure how a link to an intercooler at extremepsi disproves the notion that the reduction in efficiency, caused by a reasonable use of paint, is insignificant.

Pretty sure that's anodized. Not powder coated. Anodizing increases the surface area.

While I agree that this does not prove anything I was basically bringing up a point that a reputable manufacturer has made these, so take it for what its worth, a production option, not a mere hack job idea. something that was good enough to hit the mass production market. I can break it down barney style all day.

Your posts in this thread appear contradictory. Initially you imply that paint on an intercooler is of significant detriment. Your second post seems to indicate that since a manufacturer offers a coating option, coatings/paint must then not be of significant detriment.

Painting a intercooler will have NO ILL EFFECTS. PERIOD. Why is that EVERY SINGLE DIESEL TRUCK HAS A BLACK PAINTED INTERCOOLER? Hmmm... Why is every radiator in the world black? Hmmm...

Don't be dumb. Its not like home boy is gonna bust out a 4" wide paint brush and paint it with house paint and totally clog the fins.

They can be painted any damn color a guy wants and it will not effect any performance at all.

Intercoolers do not have to be bling bling. They can be black red blue whatever.

I'm sick of constantly seeing this debate pop up.

If it'll shut the lil 18 year old ricers up, ill log several powerpulls on my 600AWHP GSX then ill paint my 24"X12.5"X4" FMIC flat black. Go do the same power pulls on the same road at the same time a day and post all the data so you can all see that it made no differance.

And if intake air temp was effected, I bet it'd be minimall. Like not even half a degree. DUH

And the next person that fires back with some smartass reply about paint and its loss of efficiantcy is gonna get a penis painted on their intercooler.

We're all in agreement. I believe the intention was also to quell any lingering suspicion that painting an ic will kill it's effectiveness, things like keyboards and the interwebz, got in the way of clear communication. That's all.

Although I think it's been a good 2 years since I've had to get on someone for saying painted intercoolers are bad, and the thread that both you and I contributed to recently shows an improving trend, I'm all for the penis painting.

i've been looking but can't find a good shot of the TSi font to make it big enough for a stencil. i would like to incorporate JDT's design and instead of the DSM, put TSi and use just the eagle head. what do you think?

HAHA jk. This is a HUGE debate, but wasen't there someone who posted info on a non painted/painted intercooler and came back with like a degree difference or something miniscule like that?

Doesn't even matter, vendors like ETS wouldn't offer it if it made a negative effect. Anodized or otherwise, long as it's not thick coats of plastidip or house paint i think everyones fine.
