Anyone have any comparison info on different FMIC's available for a 2G? AMS/Greddy/Apex/DeJon Tool/Hahn/others??? I've read nothing but good on the AMS but they are on a serious back order right now....as well as the Greddy's seem hard to get at this point. I've read good about the Hahn in a thread here, but I've heard from a local DSM racer that they are a poor design. Any info/experiences are appreciated.

I personally like the johnny race cores, they seem to be popular here and efficent. How much whp are you looking to put down with your car though? There is many things you should think about when buying an fmic, size, efficency, pressure rate etc etc. Also might want to look into a used one, cheaper and can probably get it faster, or call local dealers see who has it in stock.

Here is a really good thread on the jr cores:

As much as possible & still be able to get the kids to school everyday. Right now I'm running a stock T-25. Will probably do a big 16g on my way up to something more radicle to gain that reliable monster power...as the budget allows of course. Crunched the stock IC and want to future proof with whatever FMIC I go with.

Maybe a better question is; does anyone have any info on how these intercoolers perform?

The AMS, Buschur & Hahn are all bar & plate design which I hear are more efficient than a tube & fin design such as the Greddy. The Hahn uses 2 1/4" inlet & outlets and are on the same side. The outlet ends up in the stock position & uses the stock routing to the TB. The inlet uses a shorter, more close to stock routing from the turbo. The AMS & Buschur use 2 1/2" inlets & outlets which are on opposite sides. The outlets use a shorter than stock routing but the inlets require a longer routing & a 180 degree bend (airflow restriction?) to route to the turbo.

What do you intercooler gurus have to say about all this???...

I thought the convention was, tube and fin cooled better, but bar and plate flowed better. Or something. I was pretty close to getting a big GReddy, but read too many complaints about the weakness of the core. I got a Hahn because of its fitment and bar and plate design. It works very well.

Check the trader if price is a concern. I got a Spearco 2-221 for $400. with a short route IC to TB pipe. jst do a search there for whatever you want. Like spearco and you can save much cash!! Mark

All of Hahn's intercooler performance info is on their website. Decent numbers which is why I went that way. Plus, I have never had overheating issues with the built in crossover pipe. :thumb:

Yeah, it's too bad they all didn't a chart like that. It seems that Hahn has some decent results...but how the rest compare is the million $$ question!

One thing to do is to print out the Hahn chart and call the other vendors and have them fill in the blanks over the phone to compare. Thats what I did. Some were helpful and some kept it a secret. I did not even bother with Greddy because I am not a big fan of their IC. You can think of the other questions like piping size, keep fog lights, installation mods, etc.

Actually our 2g FMIC core has 3" in/out and we use 2.5-3" transistion couplers to connect them. The larger in/outs on the intercooler core helps the transistion of air start sooner from the piping to the end tank. Not to mention the core is already built to accept 3" intercooler piping in case you decide to go BIG down the road, so there is no need for modification down the road.
