I have this and have worked with, JR, the guy who makes these. They are very efficient, flow enought to support a 50 trim. and he knows his shit. I think these intercoolers are gonna become very popular shortly.

this intercooler, plus 3 inches of height, is used on the 1000hp 300zx, that JR built himself, in the picture in this auction.

Definitely check these out for a cheap, well built, good intercooler option.

umm..heres his quote bout the 1000hp 300zx...

"This is the same core as I use on my 9sec 950hp turbo chevy v8 300zx except that core is 10.5 tall"

it seems kinda odd dont u think?

what is odd about it? that it is 3 inches taller than the dsm core? I don't get what you are trying to point out here.

I've got a side to side flowing IC w/ pipes that i'm trying to get rid of. Spearco 2-178 core (7.8"x20"x3.5") with the greddy piping kit routed back to the stock location. However, unlike the greddy, it goes over the top of the FMIC, instead of infront of it. I have had no cooling issues w/ this front mount, so there's no worries in that regard.

Costed me $900 to get it all ready to bolt on my car, but i'm trying to sell it for $750. Let me know. Unfortunately, it doesn't COMPLETELY fill the front bumper air dam in a 2gB, but it cools extremely well. Here's a pic.

Anyone have any experience with that Griffin core? I'm looking at them. I'm thinking about the 18x6. I know it's tube and fin. But for $295 you can't beat it IMO. Looks like it'd be a fairly simple install without any crazy bends and I wouldn't have to get a J pipe for a FMIC. . . ???

:EDIT: Also I might add that I don't plan on going with a turbo larger than a 16g or run more than 25psi of boost. Another note. The 16g will be FAR into the future

if it is 295 for that core why not get a end tank included intercooler I metnioned above for like 365. It is a side to side and will easily outperform that griffin.

if you can't find it look up dsm intercooler on ebay and look for the company extreme intercoolers

Did they do any type of fluid dynamics research or flowtesting on those "custom" intercoolers? What's the pressure drop on them? Or are they just cheap knockoffs trying to make a few bucks?

Honestly bro, i wouldn't touch an intercooler off ebay on my car. You never know what you're buying. The core that i have is proven and is race tested to low 12 second 1.4 miles at least (i ran a 12.6 @ 110.14 w/ a 1.95 60', lower that 60' down to 1.7 and you got yourself a 12.2 easy)

Finally got around to the pics of the spearco 2-209;

12.6 huh? I got you beat by 3 seconds. The intercooler I have ran a 9.x on JR's 300zx. I have been to his shop, I have checked everything out and it is legit. They are all flow tested and they run on very fast cars. Buy what you like, but these intercoolers are legit, tesetd and proven to run fast times, not a mid to high twelve or a bench raced low 12.

Extremely high flow (enough to power a 9 second race car) means lots of pressure drop bro, which for a street car is not a good thing. All i was trying to get across, was a lot of junk is sold on ebay, and the intercooler i am trying to sell has been proven to work very well for a 12 second STREET daily driven car, and obviously that's what this person is aiming for.

Damnit!! I thought the whole assembly was $295! NO! I guess I'll save for a Spearco top-bottom. I would go with side to side but I don't want to get a J pipe or make in fawked up bends. My friend Luke put a side-side FMIC on his Talon and had to make this one freak are bend in it. Unless I get an end tank with the bend alread there that is. I just figure that if I was o get a top-bottom flow FMIC the air would have less distance to travel. And keeping the intake route shorter is a good thing. Plus, arn't Spearco intercoolers a bar and plate design? Bar and plate is better than tube and fin. I donno. I got plenty of time to think about what I want. Making $6 an hour and 15-20 hours a week isn't going to get me a FMIC anytime soon.

I bought a Yonaka IC from www.streetimports.com. I got the 24X12X3 shipped to my house for $389. They have a mid-sized one that is 21X9X3 for 299 plus shipping. Mine went on fairly easily and I was able to keep the actual bumper in my car. I just did it this last weekend and have pics but they are really big. I will get them posted when I can.

Are they bar and plate?

thats fine, but the intercooler his intercooler is also used on an 11 sec rx7 and a few other 12 second 300zx and dsm's.

I guess I was just trying to say it is not ebay junk. The guy knows his shit and the intercoolers are very nice pieces.

Boosted98gsx, what intercooler are you planning on going with now that your selling you 2-178? It seems like your going for an all out for a street setup. Your choice of mods is very similiar to my own which is why I'm curious. I currently have the supra smic and find myself in a dilema trying to find an ideal upgrade.

I am personally going to try to purchase either the ADFX, slowboy, or AGP. Something w/ shortroute so that i may use my MAF as a blow through.

But if you're interested in my FMIC, that's cool, let me know. It works great, no noticable spool lag from the long route piping, and it doesn't leak at all. The core's endtank temp differences are amazing after a run, it's really a very effecient intercooler. I'd have no probs keeping it if i could somehow put my MAF past BOV, but i just can't. For those of you w/ the stock MAS, it's prolly one of the best setups for the money you can ask for.

If you're in houston, i will install it for you at no charge.
