I'm dropping a motor in my 99 fwd gst spyder, i'm wondering what the difference is between the awd and fwd flywheels. I had a awd flywheel bolted up to it. will that work in my fwd?

All 6 or 7 bolt 4g63 turbo motors have the same bolt pattern respectively. Being AWD or FWD is irrelevant. If that motor you are buying IS a 4g63 turbo motor, it WILL work with your '92 GSX...Just make sure whether you need a 6 or 7 bolt...

Also note....

Flywheel size does matter. I was sent a FWD flywheel for my AWD and found out after it was installed. The starter hits the side of the ring gear and grinds the flywheel to make it start. Check it four times before you put it in. This little problem is going to cost me big. Always check it before you install it.

Looks like it does fit, but you need to double check that. Since you already have it bolted up I guess checking it wouldn't be a problem.

No. According what people have posted here the AWD flywheel has a smaller diameter due to it needing to clear the output shaft going to the transfer case. The FWD is bigger.

Yeah, It seems as if the AWD IS smaller
FWD Flywheel diameter is 11 1/4" ring gear.

AWD Flywheel diamter is 10 3/4" ring gear.

From what Im reading anyway....
I dont think it would work though.

YOU KNOW, I WAS READING THIS THREAD ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AWD AND FWD FLYWHEELS AND I JUST FIGURED SOMETHING UP, I,VE JUST DROPED A REBUILT ENGINE IN TO MY AWD TALON, THE ENGINE CAME WITH A STARTER SO I USE THAT STARTER INSTEAD OF THE ORIGINAL ONE, WHEN I CRANK THE ENGINE I HEAR THIS GRINDING NOISE AND SOME WEAR IN THE FLYWHEEL TEETH AND I NEVER KNEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, BUT IF HOW YOU GUYS SAY AWD FLYWHEELS ARE SMALLER IT SEEMS THAT THE STARTER ALONG WITH THE ENGINE THAT I DROPED IN, BOTH CAME FROM A FWD DSM, SO IF THE FLYWHEEL OF A FWD IS BIGGER AND IM USING A FWD STARTER TO CRANK AN AWD FLYWHEEL THAT MEANS I HAVE A HUGE GAP BETWEEN MY STARTER AND MY FLYWHEEL AND THAT ITS CAUSING THE GRINDING NOISE AND THE WEAR IN MY FLYWHEEL.

IN CONCLUSSION, STARTERS FOR AWD AND FWD ENGINE SHOULD BE DIFERENT TOO .

If you click the links I posted you will see of other people complaining of the same grinding you are explaining when they swapped flywheels.

As for the starter...Shouldn't the teeth be the same even though the AWD flywheel is bigger? I mean I know that when you compare 6 bolts and 7 bolt flywheels you see that the teeth are bigger on one (cant remember which, there's a pic in one of the links i posted comparing a 6 and 7 bolt) but I don't think the teeth would be different with an AWD compared to a fwd. Just a theory of coarse.
