Flex joint

Hey guys,

I am in the middle of converting the car into more of a dedicated race car and decided to cut my exhaust off. I'm planning to run it out the fender later on, but back to the problem at hand.
I cut it off just after my 3 inch flex joint and this is what i found!!

I can't believe it!! The hole in the middle measures just over an inch!! That's a 3 inch joint!!
When i saw this i was discusted and thought i would share this with you guys.

Oh and by the way i trapped 133mph like this!!

As stated in the first post it is a 3inch flex joint. BUT then just after the flex joint i changed it to 4inch from there all the way back. Look like that was a waste of exhaust...

It's homemade DP. With the turbo i'm running i can't buy anything to fit.
The flex joint brand is also unknown as it was bought from a local parts store 3-4 years ago.
Just a heads up for guys running these joints with the braided stainless on the inside. If they were just acordian style on the inside it would be fine, but when pushing alot of exhaust thru there the braided stainless just collapses on itself.

Is there a downfall to not running a flex joint and just running 3" hard piping?

yeah you need a joint in order to allow the engine to move independently from the exhaust.. my buddy's honda had a custom exhaust on his car which did not have a flex pipe and he snapped the bolts tat hold the down pipe on all the time..

That's the issue of running full exhaust out the back, you NEED to run a flex joint of some kind in there. IF the motor wasn't transverse mount then you can get away without one but the way the motor twists and the length of the exhaust it just doesn't work.

I have now routed my exhaust straight out the bumper so i DONT need to run one now. The pipe is so short it just moves very small amount that my prothane mounts let the motor move.
