I got a polyurethane bumper today, it's nice kinda strange because it came rolled up in bubble wrap about 2feet by 2 feet...anyways I unrolled the bumper and heated it up so it would go back to normal shape. I sorta test fitted it, some places need to be adjusted so there aren't so many gaps around the head lights, but the rest looks fairly well.

My question/s is,
-How do I go about drilling the holes for this thing, I put small C clamps to hold the center of the blitz bumper to the middle mounting bracket, but with it on there the holes are covered up, I need a fairly accurate way of marking them and i'm not very clever to think of one right now.

-Same question as above for the side mounting holes.

-Last question, after mounting everything up, should I just sand up the top of the bumper so everything is flush and even? or is there some other things I should look out for when "fitting" a bumper.

Honestly I don't see any difference in me doing it, or some guy at a body shop doing it, I am trying to save money and just have to pay for the paint job and not for the fitting. Besides I don't trust many people working on my car.

Thanks for any help, I plan on starting this friday morning(tommorow) I already have my original bumper off and the blitz bumper is just sitting there waiting for the install hehe

damn it's sexy too.
ok peace

hello. On the center pieces you can drill from under the bracket that holds the kit on. If you stick your head inside the big center opening and look up you should be able to see the mounting bracket that is located near the hood locking devise. This way you can drill the holes in the kit through the existing bracket holes. As for the Side ones, I just measured using a pair of digital calipers and drilled, that should make you hit right on. There is no need to sand the kit yourself if you are bringing it to a body shop to be painted because they will just do it again and its not going to save you any money. If you arent painting it there is no point in prepping it for paint because the body shop wont trust your work. Just let them prep it.

Talk to the body shop/paint place and ask them if you can prep it.If they won't trust your work and want to charge you to redo something you just did, take it elsewhere.I have a friend that works at a body shop and if you were to bring them a blitz bumper, they'd tell you to go get f---ed,those never line up,they're a complete pain to fit and you're probably better off doin it yourself.

Just don't rush it and be ready to take the time that the body shop wouldn't want to.

Alright, I got the center pieces drilled and one side...this is what i'm noticing..

The bumper is rocking upwards just like I thought it would, Some pics are below.

Basically I am pretty positive everything is where it needs to be bolted, I'm thinking maybe I need to cut some of the blitz bumper, or possibly pull the REAL bumper out and see if it's making this thing rock upwards. I am also getting a good bit of sag under the head lights.
I called a ground effects/body shop type place dirty south customs or some shit like that, they are qouting me roughly 150 and up just to fit it for me. Honestly I doubt they have any experience with these things rocking upward and i really don't want to pay them 80 bucks an hour while they try to "figure it out" you know. Any suggestions or other people with the same issue please post how you found a solution!

Thanks for any help seriously!

by the way incase there is any confusion. On the part about the body shop wont trust your prep work im talking actually prepping the car for paint (taping up and sanding). I would say install the bumper get it to line up as best as you can, work out all the defects, then bring it to the shop and let them do the sanding and taping up. I own a company that does full car customization. If you need any help with anything let me know i can direct you in the right path with the body work, check out my website to see some of the work i have done

Welcome to the world of bodykits dude. I've seen very very few blitz kits on a 2g DSM that actually fit good. Most kits for our cars, and even a handful of the stock bumpers sag underneath the headlights. If it was fiberglass you could add layers on underneath the headlights to make it fit better, but with this the only method I can think of is to screw into your headlights with small self tapping screws for a snug fit, but I personally think thats half assed. Good luck!

Ok well i'm thinking maybe the upward rock is coming from the bumper being behind the urethane bumper...maybe if I take that out it will sag some and flatten out, or perhaps I can cut it but thats a lot of work...oh well. As for the head lights gap, is there a way to put a filler on the bumper and then mark measure and sand it to fit right?

if there is any type of filler type material thats good to bond with polyurethane, or perhaps anything else i can do...

By the way guy above me, I had a fiberglass that fit perfect and looked amazing, unfortunately it broke right off when I was driving, so I thought hrmm polyurethane is supposedly better so i'll just get that and hopefully it will be as nice as the one I had...so thats my objective.

I need help from anyone who has installed a polyurethane blitz kit on a 2g...thats really all the responses i'm looking for, not people who just have opinions but no real knowledge..that evidently isn't very helpful to me.

thanks for the input!
peace

I have the same bumper with the same problem. ease up the headlight mounts an allow to bumper to sag almost. Find two straight metal brackets and connect them from behind the lower lips of the bumper. Mount this low to the car frame (by lower crossmemeber) so that it can hold the lip pointing up: down. THEN, mount the top brackets by the headlights next. They will level eachother out

If it broke off while you were driving, then the material used wasn't the issue, mounting it was. How did it break? Did the fibgerglass crack or did a mount break? Reason I'm asking is that Poly won't keep the bumper held tight any better then fibgerglass, it can just withstand the elements of the road much better due to flexing properties. While we're on that, make sure the body shop uses a flex agent for the paint. Otherwise, you're going to see 'spider web' cracks around you're mounting points/weak area.

Good call. That's what site members are for. :thumb:

I have news about the bumper,

basically it is designed to rock upwards, that way it doesn't violate any copyright infringement type things. Basically all the blitz knock offs have something obscure that doesn't match the original, whether it be mis aligned wheel wells, bumpers pointing up, slightly wider holes etc...Anyways the one I bought was from a manufacture, KBD. I am sending it back and the guy whom I bought it from is supposed to be sending me a level polyurethane bumper. Hopefully everything works out, he said he didn't mind helping me out as long as I pay the shipping back to the factory. So we will see.

It will be about another 2 weeks or so before I can update this thread but I will when I get the new bumper and I will try to take pics and let you guys know how everything goes. Also I thought about making those brackets like you said, but the hastle will be less and the quality will be better if I just get a level fit bumper from the seller.

Thanks for the help guys!

Thats good news. Solves your problem altogether. Post some pics when you mount it, I'd like to see a blitz that doesnt point upwards on our cars. Hopefully my drift bumper doesnt do that :thumb:
