first time clutch change

This is my first FWD car, and i have to put a new clutch in it. It is a 96 GST, and i was wondering how hard it is to change and if there are any sites that would help. I am a skilled V8 and RWD tech, but please help with this one. Thanks Joboy

Probably one of the easiest cars to change the clutch on. I just changed mine recently. Didn't even need to read up on it, but here's a tech article on it. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59658 It has a link to a vfaq with pictures as well.

www.vfaq.com . Just changed my awd. Disconnect battery, uicp, reverse ligth sensor, speed sensor, starter , Remove the actuator arm to get to this one bolt. . Unbolt the crossmember. 17mm I believe. Get a 32 mm bolt and crack the big ass bolt loose on the end of the axle on the outside of the rotor. Remove the 2 17 mm and 12 ( holds the brake line to strut) mm bolts on the strut for each side. Pull the axle out. Disconnet the clutch line and slave cylinder, ubolt the shifter cables ( move aside ) . Jack under tranny. Pull out the axles .. unbolt the tranny mount.. drizop it. Then yea. You got it from there.

You missed some key steps: Swearing, bleeding (if youre lucky), throwing tools, and drinking yourself stupid.

I just got done installing an act 2600 clutch kit along with a street lite flywheel. Just like fwdturbobov1996 said its pretty much straight forward.

Sure isn't . Also, if your not replacing the flywheel shouldn't he get it resurfaced? I got mixed reviews on if you have to or not, mine looked fine and I didn't have the time too so i didn't hope that wasn't bad. Good luck with the Clutch replacement.

P.s. Make sure you bleed the clutch the right way, with a tube on the nipple going into some fluid so it doesn't suck any air in while tightening the bleeder.

yes, it's always a good idea to get your flywheel resurfaced and stepped correctly.
