Hey guys. Next weekend I think I'm going to check out this car. Given the information you see, any questions I should ask, things to look out for, anything like that? The seller seems like a really honest guy, says it just needs dsm link and a tune and itll be good to go.

That's a nice 1g but always do the basics. Look at all the fluids, check for leaks. Test Drive it and listen for any weird sounds or noises. If your questioning the build maybe do a quick compression test and boost leak test with permission of course to ease your mind. See how the clutch feels and how it shifts. Looks like a good buy but take your time, look through it and go from there.

So someone went to look at the car before i got a chance and it didnt sell. This was due to the TOB making noise while idling, a vibration while driving which the owner says he thinks is tires, and the car seems to have an idle issue. Its running a stock ecu and injectors on a bw s256 and he says thats the reason for the idle issue. Says it will die on idle sometimes but thats due to needing a tune and being on a big turbo. I need some advice before I jump on this car. Thanks.

Well, the car looks really nice and engine bay looks great. A nice looking engine bay is a good sign of a good owner. However, never trust the seller. They always seem like honest guys until you buy the car and they want nothing to do with you afterwards. It's a concern that he said the turbo is causing an idle issue. I've never heard of that nor can I think of a reason why that would be a true. It sounds like something people make up just to put the buyer's mind at ease. However, many cars (including nice dsms) have idle issues so that's not a sign of bad car necessarily. What's the price?

Another red flag is the act 2100. He has a really nice turbo setup that could produce up to 600hp but the act clutch can't hold anywhere near that. I would either think this guy doesn't really know what he's doing and maybe bought the car from someone who did long ago or something bad happened and he slapped the car the together with a bunch of crap just to sell it. For example, he says it's on stock ecu and stock injectors with a big turbo and newly replaced drivetrain but the car looks really nice and has a engine harness wire tuck. That's not easy to do. Anyways, I'm just rambling.

The way I see it. It's old car. It's moded. It will have issues. Period. You will never find a perfect car. It's only if you like it visually and see your self enjoying it. I don't know about others but I was buying a dsm because it was my teenage dream and It is not my only transportation. So with that in mind you have to choose are you buying it to wrench on it or are you buying it to save money? If you buying it to save money then don't do it to yourself. You will be broke. If you want this car to wrench on it then I think it's a decent start just make sure it's not rusted to death and make sure it drives. I made sure on mine that it drove and make sure interior was in one piace and make sure underhood was all in one piace. If it is like lego everywhere I walk awey.

Thanks a bunch everyone. Ive decided against it as id prefer a car that can atleast run and drive smoothly as is and then do maintenance and mods from there. With how educated a lot of you guys are on here, im sure ill make another post getting advice before I make a decision and hopefully ill get just as good of feedback from everyone. Again, thanks guys.
