I recently acquired a 92 GSX with 89k original miles on it with light hail damage and 4 bent exhaust valves...got a super deal on it so i couldnt pass it up...it has some ADR 17" wheels, lowering springs of some sort, short shifter, COP, Greddy type S BOV, hard turbo piping, and full 3" exhaust...everything else to my knowledge is stock...i have a new timing belt kit, valve seals, a head gasket set, and new stock head bolts to go back on when i get the head removed and sent to the machine shop to be checked out and repaired...ive been tearing into it over the past few days and all i have left to do is get the head un-stuck from the block, remove the intake from the head and send it to the machine shop...anything else i should replace or inspect while im already this far into the motor? Thanks -Alex

My goal is to get the car running. Not really gonna build it, I just want it to be a strong enough to handle a little abuse now and again. I think its pointless to run a head with small intake ports and an intake with large ones. Also the lobes on the cams in the 1g head measured ~30 thousandths larger than the cams in the 2g head. Is this just how they are or are they aftermarket?

i doubt the car was ever tuned...but i dont honestly know...

Another couple questions:

Are 1g and 2g stock coilpacks the same? If not, how so?

What does the turbo oil feed line connection look like on the head? is it a banjo fitting? because all i have is a hollow threaded bolt (looks like a twisted off banjo fiting) sticking out of the head about 1/4 inch with the feed line (barely) hoseclamped onto it...

The 2g head is actually a better casting and will support w/e you want, don't be decieved by the openings port entry is very poor.

The cams I'll get back to you on that or someone will fill in.

The coilpacks mount differently.

1g oil feed is from the cylinder head just like this car in the photo circled in green.

Found out the 1g cams are SLIGHTLY more agressive...i can deal with the coil packs mounting differently if they will work ok...and i know where the oil feed line is, i just need to know what type of fitting is used to attach it to the head?

It's the bango bolt. Wow, did he just use Shep's rocket as an example?

Couldn't see the banjo fitting on my phone earlier...head went to the machine shop earlier tonight...still wondering weather or not the 2g coil pack will work on the 1g?

anyone? i have a 2g coil that i would like to use to save me a few bucks if i can...IF I CANNOT MAKE IT WORK, i would be willing to trade my COP for a good 1g coil and a set of plug wires...i will never build this car to the point that i would need it...

well i finally got it back together...ended up goin with a 2g head and intake manifold because one of the cam "bearings" was scored about 1/8" deep and the surface of the cam sitting in that bearing was f#%&ed too...started up first try and runs like a raped ape! the t-25 spools much quicker than i expected...couldnt be happier about the outcome of the project...
