Ok, so my car is a 95 gsx with A/T. Last May I spun 2 rod bearings, and skipped timing which lead to bent valves and my car has been down since. Im currently doing a rebuild but the cold weather has put it to a halt for the winter. My HP goals for this car are to be at the 300-350awhp range. I plan on using a walbro 255, AFPR, SAFCII (Since ive got a non-eprom ECU) and 650cc injectors along with a ported EVO III 16G. Not to mention aftermarket boost gauge, a MBC, wideband o2 and FMIC.

For the bottom end that im using i got a 94 7 bolt bored .20 over with balance shaft delete, that was rebuilt with 40k miles currently on it. Ive replaced all timing components as well as the water pump. I sold the old 95 head (i should of kept it) to a buddy of mine so now im in need of a new one. In regards to this rebuild, ive got a few questions.

I found a rebuilt 96 head with 23 miles and was wondering if it will fit properly with the 94 7 bolt block? I found this thread http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/cylinder-head-short-block/224571-2g-head-1g-block.html and was trying to post in it but it would not let me, so im posting it here. Ive got some brand new ARP's for a 7bolt for them as well. Is there any diffference between the 1g 7 bolt and 2g 7bolt blocks/heads that would cause a problem from mating the 94 7bolt, to the 96 head? bolt patterns? bolt sizes? Ive heard that the 1G blocks have the bolt holes 1mm bigger in size than a 2G. Is this true?

On the same topic as the head, its been sitting for 2 years and has like a rust build up on the cams. Can that be cleaned up, or should i just stay away from it? Current owner said it could be cleaned up with brake cleaner. I dont really want to spend too much on this build since im a single father and a college guy now. BUT i want to do this once and the right way so i dont run into other problems later on since this will be my DD.

Id appreciate any help/tips that you guys can give me aswell for this build. Trying to learn as much as i can, Thanks in advance for your help!

to mate the head I think all you need to do is drill out the holes where the head bolts/studs come threw.

As far as I can tell you CAN use a 2G head in a 1G, BUT the 1G head has larger intake/exhaust ports so they 2G head will produce less power. That's what I've seen.

You can get rebuilt heads from J&C very inexpensive. I got one recently.

this is not necessarily true. although the runners are smaller in a 2g head the increased velocity of the air creates more power i believe. correct me if im wrong though

The 2g head will not produce less power. It flows much better.

92-99 7bolt blocks use the same size stud so no drilling is necessary. It is only if you put a 7bolt head on a 6 bolt block.

As for the cams how "rusted" are they. is it just a surface flash rust or is it pitted?

Well it was surface flash rust because it came off a bit when i touched it. but it looked like it had some sort of dirt as well, like it had build up of dirt/rust on it.

I would imagine they would be ok because its pretty hard for a part like that to rust through, but as with anything else it would be best if you could provide pictures.

Trying to get a few from the guy right now. Ill upload them as soon as i receive them.

if your looking mildly built why not pick up some 264 or 272 cams man? Im close to Waukegan right by Zion and ill be doin a build soon myself.

I was thinking about the 272's, but wouldnt i have to change the valves, seals, guides etc on the head to support them? And if that was the case, it would be out of my budget at the moment since im getting all that stuff that i listed in the OP.

Ive got the pics here they are, Let me know what you guys think. In the 3rd and 4th pics you can see what im talking about. now in the 2nd picture, you see that piece thats missing next to the plug well, whats the missing piece called?

Thanks for your input guys, but im reviving this thread with new questions.

Being that my car is an automatic, The 4 bolts that connect the Torque Converter to the trans, how do i get in such a small space in order to torque them back in? since my block and trans are already connected. I doubt that a regular TW will fit in a small place. Is there a special tool for this? And what are they torqued to? Should i go by the haynes manual(which i have to read up on), or is there a better source for torque specs?

Since im using a 1g 7bolt with a 2g head, lets discuss the crank angle and cam angle sensors. anyone know of a reputable place where i can get both? will my coil pack and firing order need to change in order for this combo to work?

I also need new motor mounts and bolts that hold them down. But all i ever see is the motor mounts for manual transmissions, anyone know where i can get these items? I was thinking of just going to the STEALER-ship, but i dont really want to get robbed on the price.
