i finally got my gsx. ive been searching for months! ive got so many plans for it and idk what to do first. right now its lowerd 3 inches, injen intake, big 16g, 3inch straight exhaust (no cat), new clutch, brand new tranny and a 7 bolt engine rebuild. idk if i should save up for new injectors and then dsmlink, or should i save up for a fmic and piping, or should i get rims? whats a good way to start off?

did you pay for the brand new tranny and engine rebuild? If so how much did you pay because I was looking into turning my automatic GS-T into a manual transmission and possibly rebuild my engine..

Congratulations on the new car. As for what you should do first, that's really up to you. What do you want out of the car, show or go?

Are you still running stock injectors? If so the first thing i would do is to upgrade those. Once you have better injectors you will have more modding options and room to work with for more power. Then i would go for the FMIC once the injectors have been done. But if you are looking for some more "show" then grab some rims for it first. Its all about what you want to spend your money on. Keep us updated on the car and post some pics of you get the chance :thumb: Good Luck :dsm:

Well, what you should really do, is write down all that you know that is currently installed in the car. From there, take a look at the upgrade paths located within the Tech section, and make your decisions from there. Also, always keep in mind that it doesn't matter what you put in, and how much you spent on it. Tuning the car as perfect as it can get is the most important key!

Congrats on the new car!

Well being a GSX I am sure you want it to handle well and lowered 3in doesnt always help. But if your concerned about Performance mods then the suspension may suffice but I am a handling person before going fast, no sense in having 350HP when it doesnt handle. So you may want to address the lowered 3in when you can with better springs or something or if they are coilover at least raise it an 1 in or so. That my 2 cents. Derek

i didnt do the work but i talked to the guy that did and he said he spent about $1600 on the tranny and about a total of $3000 on parts and labor for the rebuild.

i think that the gsx is pretty show as it is stock. i think ill start off with some fuel injectors and then maybe dsmlink. im gunna have my buddy sandblast my rims black till i can afford nice rims.

and for 1meanGSX, im comming from a fwd non turbo v6. so the handeling is sweet for now. ill deffinatly fix that up down the road.

thanks guys! ill post pics by the end of the week

You got to that first Derek. ha.

I was going to adress that problem as well. A 3 inch drop is a very big one. My car is dropped 2 inches, and I still scrape things. I would recommend getting a new set of springs to make it either 2, or 1.5 inches lowered, if you don't already have coilovers.

I am sure the 3in drop GSX still handle better than some of the FWD around but damn 3in that thing must be slammed, I hope your roads are like perfectly smooth. Glad you got a GSX though, big difference from the FWD world isnt it:D

I'm sorry, but it really inst much of a difference in handling, the FWD cars are lighter....witch means less wieght mass when thrown into a corner.

ANY car with a 3 inch drop will handle worse then a bus with three wheels.
The lower control arms will be angled up..and have less stability and travel.

Although the GSX will grip hard with the AWD...it tends to understeer and the front pulls out.

Ask some DSM autocross'er on these forums, they will tell you FWD handles just as good, and or, in some cases better then AWD.

read up some of the auto cross articles.

If i were you id do a fuel pump upgrade first. A walbro 190 should fit you good unless your planning for over 400hp then get the 255. Then buy a boost controller to turn up the boost. You can safely boost up to 16psi. Then get some 660 injectors to fit your 16g, some people might say go with 550's but 660's will allow you for more head room while tuning. Then top it off with dsmlink. Just remember that if you get dsmlink you will need a eprom ecu and a laptop to tun. Good luck with everything and Congratulations on your buy!! I want AWD:( haha later.

Or you can just check out the upgrade path.:)

if that was my car, i would get a either a 190 or 255 so u dont have to upgrade later, and get something to tune with. dsmlink will do the trick.if you are on a strict budget get an afcII and a logger setup.

Ok lemme get this strait Drift SM you are telling me that a FWD handle as good as a GSX. I know GSX's dont handle godlike but if you compare to a GST they can. I have been to plenty events and I see what GST's and other FWD do, they make their inside tire bald after they are done. Yes with a Quafe LSD and every other mod they may do alright but still far from a decently modded GSX. And tell me to read, you might want to read how many successful GSX's there are compared to FWD GST's for that matter. I have read about every Autocross article on this forum and I see about 98% reccomend a GSX over a GST anyday. Talk about the front tires pushing in an AWD, what the hell do you think a FWD does oversteer? Sorry to get off track but I dont like misinformation. :toobad:

Oh by the way I have owned both, a GST and GSX and the handling is much better in the GSX with 300 extra pounds by far.

Edit: If mrbrianf wants to upgrade his suspension in the future heres some good links for suspension dynamics and handling for Autocross and other related topics. I suggest Drift SM you might want to read it too, good stuff on AWD.
