Finally broke something

Its been a few weeks since we got the car on the road and so far its been flawless. We something had to give and on the way home from work tonight all hell broke loose from the rear end. I put the hazards on and was preparing to pull over when the noise faded away. I was only a minute from home so I decided to try and make it.

I made it home and quickly hopped out to see what had gone wrong. I had suspected that a u-joint let loose but when I looked it appeared as if the diff was twisted? I looked a little closer and it wasn't the diff it was the drivers side axle that had come loose. I doubt we broke the bolts that hold it place. I suspect they came loose and then they either fell off or sheared when the axle started to wobble.

My wife was on her way out of the house so I was on Daddy duty for the night. I didn't get a chance to even look at it again until 9pm. Having the Eclipse as a parts car is sure coming in handy because I was able to find all 8 rear axle bolts and the drivers side axle was still in the car.

I popped that out and quickly popped out the axle in the VR4 only to find it wrapped around the brake line so tight I had to remove the line to get the axle out. Once I took some of the tension out of it I could see where it had almost worn through and was leaking. If the axle hadn't wrapped so tightly around the line it would have ruptured.

So, by 11pm the car was buttoned up with the new axle and brake lines from the Eclipse. I would be a really happy guy if all the failures could happen this close to home.

I drove 180 miles this Easter weekend after fixing a no start issue. Once I got home, I went back out to move the car so my fiancé could park in the driveway and it wouldn't start again. I know how lucky I felt, I can't imagine how lucky you must feel that it didn't tear itself apart.

I spun a bearing 5 miles from home in my vr4.. I was lucky!! I broke a dog ear off the block in my tsi.. 100 feet from our shop!! lucky again! My other tsi threw a timing belt.. infront of my technical school.. These guys like to break in the right spots.

I bent all my exhaust valves when my timing belt gave out.. about 300 feet from my house. A few weeks ago, I somehow blew the oil filter seal on my talon cruising down the highway.. about a mile from my house. So far, I have not broken down outside of walking distance from my batcave.

i broke down 15 miles when my ignition contrl module went while i was crusing at 130, i just got the car so i was worried taht the timing belt went, and i didnt know it was that so a couple weeks later in front of a porsche dealer it went again and thus a porsche mechanic find my module hits it with a hammer and goes this is the problem

Any clue what caused the loosening?

I broke my first shaft 2 weeks ago 15 miles from home. It snapped off inside the rear diff. I pulled over, took bolts off hub and threw it in the back. Calmly drove home stopping every several miles just to make sure all was ok.

man that blows my friends tsi talon hasd a rear differential lock up on him going the the road at 75 mph while passing someone he didnt wreck but theres some nice black marks on the road now haha good thing the diff. is a recall or it wouldve cost him like 200 bucks to fix
