Okay, dont laugh, I am *totally* new to all this....what does wet sand mean? How does one do it? .... hahah I must sound so ignorant.. :(

its just fine, i'm NOT new, and i don't know what it means...LOL

Haha, it's ok guys. Wetsanding is when you use high grit paper that's meant for wetsanding (400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500 are all usually wetsanding sand paper) and you either continually dip the sandpaper in water while sanding or you run the part you are wetsanding under a faucet while you're sanding. It's that simple. It will just get stuff smoother than conventional sanding and it will make clearcoat shinier if you do it really lightly.

bang-up job
this is even cooler than the glove box leather-covered safc and gauge holder thingy

makes me want to do some stuff with fiberglass and shit, but my car is too ghetto for any of that high class lookin stuff.

what brand of primer, paint, and clear did you use. I didnt completely read your post so you may not of used primer. looks clean man

I used spray filler primer, SEM Urethane Bumper Paint, and Krylon Triple-Thick Glaze for clear. Only problem is that you can't really spray completely smooth things with a spray can, but I didn't realize this at the time. With a spray can you can get it as smooth as you want it before you paint it, and after paint it will look a little bumpy. You will need to either purchase an ok spray gun (HVLP gravity fed if you're going this route) or take it to a shop to get it done. Luckily one of my friend's dads owns a body shop and he can do all my smoothed interior panels for like 30 bux :thumb:.

dude, can you make me one?

Hehehe..I have some major fiberglasing commin up now too.Have made som small jobs before but now I am to make the whole backseat into a stereoarea with subs and all..will fiberglas everything around the subboxes and all.Gees... but I hope it turns out just as good as your frame because it really looks good!! Keep up! :)

No offense to anyone but if i were you i would not make any for anyone else. Have something custom 1-off in your car that is always super trick. But it is all up to you man. Thats just my opinion or suggestion. Whatever you decide that is bad man.

Wow... Nice work!:thumb:

And nice write up. I stumbled across this thread on accident, but I'm glad I read it. Great job. I think I might try to make something. Just something random until I'm sure I won't screw up my car.;)

i'm gonna go throw up. that is the sickest shit i've ever seen. good lord does that look sweet as hell. i can't tell you enough. excelent work my friend. that is A++

Wow, this was a while ago, but thanks a lot guys. I wasn't happy with the job that spray paint did so I took it to one of my friends to get it painted at his shop. I'll post some more pics after I go pick it up which may be today. :thumb:

Bringing an old thread back again, but did you pick it up yet? I'm thinking about doing the same thing, except i'm planning on putting my 3 gauges in the single din spot. Did you ever end up making any more?

Absolutely beautiful man!!! IF you do make one for someone else do it differently than yours so it is still one of a kind...the other guy makes out too! Once again, Awesome job!!
Yeh materials are cheap...its all the fawking labor that goes into it! :(
Leo

Damn, this is back from the dead :). Thanks boogieman, your stuff is just straight up awesome (feel like sponsoring me :shhh: ). I'm gonna have to get into carbon fiber one of these days. Is it really THAT different?

Not much different at all....you just have to be perfect with carbon fiber because you won't be coming back and filling it with bondo or covering it with paint, so it has to be RIGHT ON! Way to do that is have the shape you are covering perfect first, then laminate it from there.
Give it a try, but like anything else with composites it is the labor...not material cost!!
Leo

Do the blue LED HVAC lights too, that would look great in our car.

Ya man, I was gonna do that but I'm way too lazy. I'll get around to it someday. What I need now is to paint the stupid thing, it hasn't been painted for like 6 months :p.
