few issues I have, want to get some input.

Ok, so I have been trying to do some shake downs on this TSi I just picked up. After market boost gauge installed and MBC set wide open for now as to not promote over boosting. Car has an aftermarket turbo back exhaust and thats about it other than a hard pipe from the MAF to the turbo. And supposedly a larger turbo.

So here are the issues im having:

On cold starts the car will idle to about 2grand then sound like a miss and slowly drop until it reaches the 800rpm idle and operating temp. Seems like she is idling to high on the cold start. What could be the potential problem?

Next, car will boost to approx 15psi according to aftermarket gauge and starts to seemingly hit fuel cut. Not exactly sure why I am boosting so high with the boost controller opened wide open.. Boost holds steady too, so no leaks causing it, although I think the BOV is leaking based on the sounds I hear under load.

At steady RPM in gear while driving and then accelerating the car seems to sputter before accelerating. Like a horrible turbo lag or mis metered air readings.


So the next steps I am taking is getting my eprom chipped with a decent setup and a 2g maf. As well as some larger injectors pte680's. Will this likely solve my problem or just cause more? I am also ordering a new fuel pump next week too. So the question is are these solutions to the problem, or just bandaids?
 
As far as the boost with your mbc opened all the way it sounds like the wastegate spring is a 15psi spring and that is why you can't get any lower boost levels. Also what kind of boost controller is it? What style? Make sure you are turning it down and not actually turning it up more. My Turbo XS mbc turned left to increase boost and then I had a ball + spring type and you turn to the right to increase.
 
Mine is a ball and spring type. It is only being held in by a couple threads right now, so it should not be boosting anymore than if i were to connect the nipple on the J pipe to the wastegate.

And even if it had a 15lb spring in there, why would I hit fuel cut under boost?

Because you're still on a stock fuel system and it cant take that much air flow.. Any pics of your "bigger turbo"?

I dont understand why newer members get MBC's and leave them all the way turned out. Why not just run the line from your boost source to the wastegate? Less chances for boost leaks and its really not necessary to have one.

I did not put it there, I bought the car that way. Next, my fuel system will be upgraded soon. Ordered a stealth fuel pump thats over 300lph if I read right, and from what I have heard its quieter than the walbro pumps. Also picking up a set of 680 injectors. I have my spare ECU out getting socketed and setup with a quality chip setup so I can put a 2g maf into the car and basically clean up everything. I already have an AFPR I am waiting to install. not sure if im just going to throw an AEM rail on it and be done, or get an AN adapter to hook the AFPR to.

I will post up some pix of the turbo next weekend when I get a chance to get back to work on the car. I drive a truck for a living and wont be in till the weekend to dick around with it or get decent pix.

Ordered hard pipes today as well. I was given 2 FMIC's with the car and want to get that installed in place of the OEM pipes at the very least if I dont just do the FMIC install on it. I may not need it, but it was free with the car and its an upgrade over stock.

So slow ## roll crash. I bought the car a week ago, and the only thing I have done to this thing so far is fixed 2 vac leaks, replaced a pulley, added a boost gauge and adjusted the idle speed. Everything else done to this car so far has been by the previous owner ( a teen aged kid) who seemingly didnt quite understand some things about these cars.
