Another newb question... Is the factory head gasket metal[from mitsu]? I always read to use a factory head gasket.

I am getting a factory head gasket that was purchased at a musti dealer. I also seen one on road race egineering that said factory metal head gasket for 90 bucks. Is it the same gasket? The one im getting fromt he mistu dealer is like 60 bucks.

Thanks in advance....

The stock gasket that came on my car was a fiber material. Mitsu also makes 4-layer metal head gaskets, but they didn't come from the factory with them. If you get a set of ARP head studs, the stock fiber one should be fine. It also seals better if you didn't resurface the head/block.

Thanks for the info. I did purchase studs, i guess im going with stock fiber.

Appreciate the help! :dsm:

The stock head gasket can blow out even with ARP Head studs.. Don't be fooled. People have even blowen out The metal ones too. It depend on how much cylinder pressure you make.. The Stock head gasket can't make as much as a metal one.

Yes, the stock one can blow out even with ARPs, but I'm guessin he's not going to be running that much boost through it. It should hold 22psi just fine with the ARPs and though he doesn't have his mod profile filled out, I'm guessin he's not going to be running that for awhile.

Also with the metal ones, you need to resurface both the head and the block which may not happen.

But yes, the stock gasket cannot make as much as the metal one....just another thought, the 4-layer metal one is a bit thicker than stock, so it will lower your compression just a tad (unless you had your head milled)
