I am in the process of getting this

I am very interested in the results

Originally i was looking for a turbo that shoots straight down, for my fmic that im making pipes for, so its alot easier then taking a 16g, Jipe up and over, and to the driver side, too much work, so i needed something that shoots straight down.

After i figured that out, i started looking for turbos, but everything seemed TOO big for what i wanted, i want a VERY streetable turbo, with quick spool up(not as fast as stock, but nothing crazy) and good drivability and still be able to break 300whp

All the 50trims seemed too big. The 20g is hard to find, expensive, and has boost creep issues.

Then i stumbled on this

http://www.extremeturbo.com/product_info.php?cPath=38&products_id=92

Not as big as the 50trim, uses slightly smaller compressor housing (t04b not t04e) and a high flow t3 turbine wheel(which is fully explained and compared to a td05h wheels and seems far superior)

Also these guys use their own stainless exhuast housings, machine ported, 39mm wastegate flapper, ALL garrett internals/externals and just seems like the perfect street turbo that shoots down.

40lb compressor wheel as well, which seems just right.

I especially like their turbine housings, because i want to get it thermal coated and still not have it crack.

What do you guys think about this one? It seems new.

and btw, its alot cheaper then a 50trim

You know, I too was once a starry-eyed newbie, entranced by the "Mutt" series of turbos...

I paid 1487.50 for a 6cm Mitsu turbine housing'ed, 47 trim TA compressor.

Not Only did I get completley hosed on that deal, as you can get a FP 3057 for what I paid in 2000, but The turbo lasted only 4000 miles of moderate street boost. (Only 15 psi, cause like so many newbies thought big turbo and no support would be ok).

You should have seen the shaft play, it was like the bearing vaporized, and left the shaft dangling in the CHRA

14b cars were whipping my ASS.

F Mutt turbos, F them in their stupid butt. Now they try to compete with the new generation Bolt on t3/t4s by offering a "Stainless turbine housing".

As a person with FIRST HAND experience on this matter, I would tell you to save your money and get a EVO III 16g. These turbo get no love because they dont have as pretty a Compressor cover as most turbos, or that they dont seem to make that much power.

Get a EVO III for $550, a $230 TIal 38mm external, clock the compressor housing downward and use a BR or the like $25 2" Compressor outlet pipe, hooking it up to your exsisting FMIC setup w/o the J-pipe that you don't like, and have quick spoolin fun. Christ, with the monet you saved you could buy something else you need for your car, or a pretty Stainless 02 housing to make the whole package look nice.

Seriously F-mutt turbo's. I was a rebel too, and everyone told me that MUTT's blow. I didn;t listen and now I'm still paying interest on a turbo that doesnt even exsist.

Hope you dont get Hosed like I did. :thumb:

I am a Mutt "sucker" also. I still have it on the car now. Shaft play after 5000 miles is horendus. It made 300 hp at the wheels a year and a half ago. It's probably at 270 or so now. It spools like a 450 hp turbo but puts out power of a 16g.

I will never by a hybrid turbo again. Think about it. The absolute best a hybrid can be if its done correctly is "just as good as a garett". So why not buy a garett or a mitsubishi.

I think what your looking for is the evo III 16g.

Now I'm gonna go and put my 14b back on with the 7cm housing from the mutt.

Does this also apply to frank and red turbos as well? I'm in the same boat as him. I'm lookin but there are just so many damn options OMG So are hybrids over rated?

From what I hear (don't own one myself) FP is one of the companies that gets the hybrid thing right. I didn't mean imply all hybrids are bad. Some are great. I've only heard good things about FP.

This next statment is an opinion and should be read as one (not a fact).
"It is my opinion that a mix and match hybrid can only at best, be as good as, but not better that the turbo it is trying to be". I'll use the popular 50 trim as an example. An eta-32 would be on the "didn't quite get it right" end of the spectrum and the Green would be the "98% potential of a garett 50 trim" with most others shops being inbetween the two.

Now with all that said, if I had gotten the Green instead of the eta-32, I may not be of the same opinion as above. Maybe.

yeah but the one im looking at seems to be ALL garrett parts

The only thing not garrett is the turbine housing

the turbine wheel, the compressor wheel, the compressor, the center section are ALL garret

How is that a hybrid?

People mistakenly call the newer ET turbos as Mutts because that what they used to be called in the “DSM Performance” days. ETE and these new turbos are NOT MUTTS and I think that it was a big mistake on ET’s part to maintain that designation (there was a lot of x-references to the word Mutt on their old site). They are 100% Garrett turbos (other than the exhaust housing), as you say.

Having said that, any non GT series Garrett turbo is only as good as the turbo shop that put it together… So some are good and some (most?) are not so good (especially if they didn’t use 360 deg. thrust bearing). The same can NOT be said about new Mitsubishi turbos, they are all consistently good!

I would second what other have said, get an EVO 16G…

That turbo is probably a 46 trim, which is ass. Spools like a 50 trim, power like a 16g.

I love my 50 trim, good spool, great power, still does well on the road courses.

All you need is a J-pipe which you can pick up from most dsm vendors or in the classifieds section or on the dsmtrader.

Ben from AGP built mine. At least you can feel good about the customer support.
