Hey everyone, I have a stock 97 GST right now and I am looking forward to buying a t28 turbo and an intercooler kit. I have looked into buying from extreme psi but every thing I want to buy has been out of stock for a couple of weeks. Anybody know when they will restock products?

Have you tried to contact them directly? I have yet to purchase anything from them so I do not know about their customer service.

I'd take an evo 3 16g or the forced performance 68hta over the t28. They're all bolt on turbos in the same price range. The 2g exhaust manifold you already have will work well for any of those turbos. If you still want a new one get the forced performance manifold.

The Garret T-28 is a fantastic turbo! The evo 16g and 68hta while technically, bolt on to the exhaust housing, do require an install kit to truly bolt them up as they are. You can run this turbo safely in the stock configuration. I would suggest a fuel pump rewire though. You do not really need an upgraded exhaust manifold for the T-28. your money would be much better spent on maintenance, and fuel/tuning solutions such as ECMLink or the like.

Ok so I know the 16g is a better turbo but I just don't want to mess around with internals. Will it work out with a 68hta or 16g? Also anybody know where to find any one of these? Perferably 16g

16gs arent made anymore. So new stock will he hard to source. This is the exact reason FP only sells the HTA68. I would definitely pickup a used 16g or get a turbo from FP.

Technically, you can run any of the turbos you have mentioned with stock internals. If your quite concerned about your engine, perhaps a compression and leak-down test are in order to get an over idea of the health of your motor. If your only wanting the turbo and an inter-cooler setup, stick with the T-28. To run the 16g (EVO III 16g are what most mean by 16g) or more importantly, the 68hta, you will need fuel/tuning upgrades. The 68 hta isn't even awake until north of 20 psi. At this point you should at least have swapped out the stock head bolts to something like ARP head studs. So people aren't wondering what type of modifications you currently have on the car, take the time to create a profile for your car. Here is a tutorial:

This will save much more time for further questions.

Yes i forgot to add that. I ran my 16g on a 100% stock motor. I ran the turbo pretty hard to but i have a really good tuner.

I have never ran a t28, but I would assume for the price the FP68HTA will outperform it in every way.

For the money, why don't we just tell the OP to go to a Holset? Cost is irrelevant without the proper modifications to run the turbo. The ancillary modifications are being over looked. Unfortunately, the turbo and intercooler alone are not a good choice with the 68 hta. Of course, this is also based on the limited information the OP has provided.

This will be my daily driver so I don't think I will ever need to go above 20 psi

In this case, the 68 hta would not be a good choice regardless of cost.

Search around on craiglist, I have seen 2 or 3 nice t28's for sale. I think there are some around Denver at the moment. I run a t28 with full supporting mods and tune with ceddysmods, and the turbo is great for a daily driver. Sure, if you are wanting to run over 23psi, then DONT get a T28, go with evo16, ect. However, 23psi and lower the T28 is pretty decent. I try to run about 21psi, and the T28 does pull pretty good. Its also a "direct" bolt on, no need to re-run any oil feed/return lines, no need for a J-pipe, ect.

However, you should be aware its very hard to only be at 20psi, its VERY addicting to want more. 20psi seems to be that point where you can experience something exciting as far as power, while 25psi is that point where the car really starts to come alive (but also more parts can break, also should be looking into a upgraded clutch). Good luck. the T28 is a tough little turbo that should put your car in the "pretty quick" category with out needing to upgrade to many other parts. Extreampsi is a great store to support, as I get most all my parts from them, but check craiglist if you don't want to wait, I believe someone was selling a nice BIGt28 for like 300 bucks.
