Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but... Car sat down for a few months getting repairs done. Had to fix a couple of exhaust leaks, one being a bad stud at the head. While the car was apart I had a FP manifold, the turbine housing and my o2 housing ceramic coated. After having put everything back together (trying out ExtremePSI's multi layer SS gaskets) I found that I apparently had a very hi heat issue, enough to have melted a couple of things. It has been back on the road for about 3 weeks now. This is the same tune I was running before taking the car down for maintenance. There was one night the car sounded like it had an exhaust leak but I have not had to do anything to fix it and I cant find any evidence of one nor does the car sound like it has one now. There was one issue with the ECU not taking a new tune but it has been fixed.

I'd put money on an exhaust leak. I think it's unlikely that it's radiant heat doing that. Ever used sea-foam? It's a GREAT way to find exhaust leaks with the amount of smoke it creates. Keep your hood up and if you see any smoke in your engine bay then you've got exhaust leaks.

Well I have had exhaust leaks before and have had it damage the fan blade before, nothing like this... I used sea foam as suggested and found only one small leak at the corner of the manifold right behind the power steering pump. Not really in a place that I would see doing that kind of damage.... So quick recap...

Car down for maintenance,
Put car back together W/ceramic coated parts,
drove for a week-ish then had what sounded like exhaust leak,
checked car couldn't find any issues, haven't had any issues sense
drove car for about another week check again very small leak...

So if I had an exhaust leak... it fixed itself......

Odd...

In my opinion, there are no coatings out there that work good enough. It definitely helps, but is not a "end all" cure to managing temps vs heat shields and wrap/blankets.

I plan on coating, wrapping, and adding heatshields for my exhaust parts. (auto-x/road race use)
