I've seen numerous people running an external wastegate on a stock manifold during my time here. I am thinking about doing this for my car once I go to a 20g and because of my exhaust an O2 mounted gate would be a lot of hassle. I'm worried about cracking since the stock mani is cast and every flange I see for Tial's is steel. Is there a shop somewhere that offers this as a service? Like on an exchange basis, you know they send me the new manifold with gate on it and I send them my old one as a core. If you are running this setup I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. And if you know where I can get one that has been welded correctly let me know. :thumb:

First off I'm not runinng one, but I have welded cast iron, and as long as it's prep'ed right, it should not crack. The surface has to be very clean. Not just clean, solvent and time with a wire brush clean. Then heated to, and kept, cherry red during the welding process using "ni-rod." Sorry, but I can't remember the actual term for the rod, but it's nasty stuff, requiring proper ventilation, and it burned the sh!t out of my arms. If you take it some where ask them how they would weld it up and if they don't run something like this by you, go to the next place.

Contact RRE and pick thier brain.

I ran a tial 38mm flange 2g mani all summer with no problems. Although finding a welder for it is not easy ... if it's done properly it's not a problem. I had a local performance shop do it and although it was a little pricey I think it was worth it. No problems with cracking and it actually looked good. I was now considering a tubular manifold, but due to the prices of those I'm just going to do an evo 3 mani or a sbr and have that flanged again. My 2g mani is up for sale btw.

If you can TIG weld I can then you can simply use steel rod and weld it just like you would a piece of metal.
