Apexi N1 is a pretty nice exhaust. Its what i use and its not ricey at all. its about $560 so not too expensive

I have had one made and i have a name brand on my car now... I would just buy an ebay exhaust.. They are really cheap and no that bad quality wise... I have a apexi cat back and a megan racing dp.. I sounds great

+1 on the eBay exhaust. Plenty of people on here have had good luck with them - there's a thread recommending some specifically. Just so you know up front, the Apexi N1 isn't a true 3" exhaust. I have one though, and it's top notch.

Or, got a local shop and have a custom one fabbed up (preferably a DSM shop, since hopefully they have done it before). Just make sure they use mandrel bends. Advantages are that you can get whatever you want and have it built exactly how you want it, and it usually isn't too bad on price, sometimes even cheaper than the pre made systems.

Exhausts are supposed to be a bolt on mod, meaning you take the old part off and put the new mod on in maybe 5 to 15 mins. However, if your cars underside is all rusted and beat like most of these 10 - 20 year old dsms are then it might be harder to just unbolt the exhaust.

For my catback i couldnt do the work myself because my entire exhuast was rusted really bad and i couldnt get the bolts of myself, I had to have a muffler shop take a blow torch to it to finally get it off

any 3" exhaust will perform basically the same as the next one. you're just looking for sound correct?

Thermal R&D - I have an Apexi but i'm saving for the thermal.

They are all about the same. Pick whichever is the cheapest, stainless steel, with whatever style muffler and tip you like the most.

i just found a 4'' cat black exhaust for $56 on ebay...seems kind cheap

also i was wondering if i needed a special exhaust manifold to match the exhaust, or would any aftermarket turbo manifold work?

4 inch? You sure it wasn't 3 inch? Or possibly just the outlet tip size?

A cat-back bolts up to the cat, thats why it's called a cat-back. While the downpipe bolts up to the O2 sensor housing and then to the cat, but in some cases, it does away with the cat (ie APEXi's downpipes).
Ebay's prices are cheap, but there's no way to go wrong with a name brand, like Apexi, HKS, or Greddy just to name a few. I have the APEXi N1 exhaust system and really like it. Sounds great, it's not to loud, and it gave a nice bump in power after I put it on. Installing WELL MADE aftermarket exhaust systems or any other bpu isn't very hard at all. One thing I would get if I was you is a Haynes manual for our cars, it's a good investment, and can give you a rough idea of how hard something is gonna be to take off, repair, install, ect. And welcome to DSMtuners!

In a perfect world all you have to do is unbold your exhaust and bolt the new one up. In the DSM world however, nothing's ever that easy. I got a full 3" exhaust off ebay. The quality is great and it sounds great. Had every bolt on my exhaust not been rusted and all the flanges rusted together it would have been an extremely easy transition from old to new. I couldn't unbolt anything except the downpipe from the O2 housing so I ended up taking the whole exhaust off in one piece. It was heavy as ####. The exhaust I got eliminated the cat and I sold the cat to a scrap yard for $75 and got back most of what I paid for the exhaust. Maybe yours won't be that hard. good luck

still though, would it be a good idea to put a new manifold on...i mean i'm going to put a high flow cat on when i do the exhaust, so might as well do it all right?

No your 2G manifold will be fine, just port it. Also while your at it you might as well port your o2 housing.

As for the link you posted that looks like a test pipe not a high flow cat.

I only paid $400 for my brand new N1. I'v seen them as cheap as $350.

WTF? Where???

Yes thermal does sound nice, but I could never justify spending $600+ on a cat-back when you can get a named brand turbo back for $600.

Very true

I dont believe that even exists

Your manifold will work fine. Its the down-pipe that will be different

SOOOO true. In my dream world i could just bolt that bad boy on

I don't recommend AAS. Anyway, I think you seem kind of confused. From the block, it goes manifold, turbo, o2 housing, downpipe, cat, cat-back. So you do know you when buying a cat back, you'll on be replacing the back half of your exhaust.
If what you're looking to do is have a new exhaust completely, you might want to find some turbo back exhausts. Some delete the cat, others don't. Some have the o2 housing, others don't.

Whenever I get caught up on maintenance, I think I'll be having my local shop do a 3" Straight Pipe that's o2 housing back. Haven't gotten any quotes because it's the last thing on my list.

Bro, i just bought an SS Autochrome 3" exhaust. its hella nice, 3" $325, Liftetime warranty. Stainless steel, new gaskets and bolts. And it sounds really nice. Search for it on the forums

Yo, I just bought an Apexi N1 (3'') cat back

now i heard from someone that a 3 inch will give me a flat spot in my acceleration...is that true??

the person i bought the exhaust from said my car needs the 3 inch because it has turbo and a 2.5 incg would be not as good as a 3

can someone tell me who is right please...so i know if i need to take it back

thank you
