Exhaust spraying for first minute of driving

Just got done searching a ton on here...Still need help

so if you start the talon up you instantly see a little puff of smoke come out until it starts idling correctly...about 3 seconds. Then you see a ton of liquid/fluid coming out of the exhaust pipe. This will last for about the first 30 seconds to a minute of driving. I watched my Fiance drive the car and I couldn't believe it! I then had her gun it a little and boom big amount of black smoke. Gas Mileage is crappy and has been for a while and she burns oil like it's going out of style. Anything I can check to hopefully cut back on the costs at my local shop? Hopefully I can narrow it down a bit. Thanks guys

Car has 136K miles on her and only thing replaced has been the tranny and clutch since we got it at 67K miles. I would say EVERYTHING on this car is as it was from the factory.

You need to see what it is comeing out. Cats produce water. Actually they convert CO2 into water through the catalyst. Anyways it could be that, but seeing as your useing oil. Do a compression check to see if you might have a blown Headgasket. Check your radiator for Oil in it. If you have good compression numbers I think around 160-190 for 2G then pull your IC piping from the turbo and pull the O2 housing. Look at the turbine wheel. If it is all clean and either shiny or just a slick black looking color then you definitly are blowing oil through it and that is your source of oil consumption.

Some smoke on start up is common with high milage motors as the valve seals are usually all brittle and hard and they tend to leak after shutdown. Hope I might have been some help to ya. Pulling the O2 housing might be something for your mechanic to do if you are not very comfortable doing it. Also probably want a new gasket for it as well.
 
Thanks for the replies guys...I have a new FP BigT28 sitting here waiting to go in. Basically I don't want to put it on and find out its something else. Could I ruin the turbo at all by putting it on right now and keeping boost moderate? We are looking into rebuilding the motor eventually but would rather not drop the dough until after this winter. Would it be worth it to just throw the turbo on and get a used head for a shop to redo and slap that in? As far as I can tell it is the factory head so I am sure the valves are not sealing like they should. Thanks for the help guys!!!

well my 98 was doing that for 50k miles before i sold it. :thumb: . i thought it was morning dew mixed with the exhaust gas :talon:
 
Yah I have had cars that do that but it does it every time after you start it back up. My fiance drove it from school to a parking lot to meet me. We took the truck and came back 30 minutes later. Car sputtered liquid and puffed smoke for first minute and when she gunned it. We got to the store and parked it for 45 minutes, same thing when we came back out and started her up, went to another store 5 minutes away and parked for 20 minutes. came out and did it again. So its not condensation or anything. Something is either leaking or settling and then getting burned up and shot out after start up. hhhmmmmmm
 
I've got the same problem with my 95 GST. It has a small puff of smoke at startup, then a puff of smoke in between each shift (when moderately boosting). My compression is good and no AF in my oil, so I'm guessing it's my turbo. I've been pushing the T-25 pretty hard for the last 10k miles at it's limits, so I figure that's what's smoking. If it's not that, there's a good chance it could be my valve stems, which will be a huge PITA :mad: -- just another thought for ya.
 
Well this is good to hear..I will do a compression test tonight and see what I get. I guess I will just install the new turbo and see if I still have that problem. I should just get a ported and polished head and HKS cams for shits and giggles too! :thumb: :D

OK UPDATE! Installed my 3 new gauges today and got under the car for the firrst time in weeks. Noticed I have Coolant leaking right near the Oil pressure sending unit. Its green and smells of cat urine so definately coolant!!! Any idea where this coul dbe leaking from or how it relates to my other issues stated above? Thanks
