Exhaust Question..I Searched First.

Okay, let me start off by saying I did search for this problem and after an hour of searching, though finding threads that discuss it, I did not come up with a straight answer.

I bought an Ebay 3" downpipe and an Ebay cat-back. The cat-back does not bolt up to the downpipe. The kit came with an adaptor but is meant to be bolted up to the stock downpipe so it is too small. There is a 1-2 inch gap between the downpipe and cat-back.

So basically my question is where do I get an adaptor just like the one in the cat-back system but that is 3" straight through rather than 2.5-3. I am trying to avoid welding, clamping, etc. And I am definitely trying to avoid having a shop do it.(last mechanic backed my car into another customers car and told the insurance company that I was the one driving...it's still damaged). I just want it to bolt right up and everything will work great if I could just get an adaptor that goes from 3" to 3".

If anyone knows of any companies that sell this or if anyone has one please let me know. PM or post would be appreciated.

looking for something like a test pipe? ## going to have to either make something or get it made/ welded/ cut or whatever. dont take ## car to retards and dont let them drive it. take it to exhaust shop.

This is a common problem with a common solution. Take it to an exhaust shop and have them weld in either a piece of exhaust to join it or a flex pipe if your downpipe doesn't have one.

I have never seen what you are looking for. I understand you're trying to avoid taking it to a shop but your best bet really is to have a reputable exhaust shop cut off the neck down portion and replace it with a short section of 3" pipe and a flange.

If you absolutely don't want to do that you can try slotting the bolt holes of the adapter and maybe get it to bolt up to your downpipe.

Damn, I was hoping to be able to buy something and bolt it right on ...but that wouldn't be complicated now would it? .

Well looks like I'm going up to NH so I can be under the car watching/helping. I've personally never had a good experience with anyone working on my shit...### no one will appreciate a car they don't own.

Well I took the car to an exhaust shop...they cut my 3 day old brand new 3" downpipe in half and welded a 2.75" cat to it. This is not what I wanted. I originaly did not want a cat or resonators...well now I've got 2.5" pipe going to a 3" downpipe going to a 2.75" cat to 3" piping then back down to 2.5" resonators then back to 3" piping to the muffler and a 4.5" tip. What the PHUCK!

I'm never bringing my car to another muffler shop again. I now have a completely mismatched, shitty flowing, ricer exhaust that only comes off in one piece because it's all welded together. This current setup cost me $350 total for parts and another $260 for the muffler shop. That's what $610? I'm sure glad I took everyone's advice . I got ####ed. I swapped out my entire exhaust to end up with the same ####ing thing in the end after $610 dollars except it now flows worse than the previous exhaust. So $610 later and I get less power and the car drives worse. Thank you DSM for making me spend my healthcare money once again to get jack SH%T out of you. One of these days I'm going to drive to the junkyard and trash this bottomless money pit.

That right there is your own fault. You must not have been clear with the shop. I know I certainly wouldn't have paid for any of that. They should have only done what you told them to do.

I don't know how it is in MA but here in Chicago you get what you want because you're paying! I thought you were going to watch them work on the car? And also what exhaust did you buy so that other people know not to mess with it. For 610 you could have had Megan or something with a good rating.

^That's what I'm saying, I could have had a nice exhaust for all the money this one ended up costing. I went to the most reputable exhaust shop in the area. I couldn't drive the car 3 hours to get it worked on with an open downpipe so I had to go local... And yes it is my fault. I should have never taken it to a shop in the first place.

However, I was very, very clear with them what I wanted and that is not what I got. I could not watch because of shop liability so I could not see what they were doing until it was done. Needless to say I learned my lesson... do my own work and don't trust shops.

I wouldn't have paid because they didn't do what you asked. Yes, there are some places that will not bolt up an exhaust without a cat, but they can't just put one on without telling you. It seems too late now, but you should have acted when it happened. By paying you agreed to the work that was done.

I can understand that you are beyond aggravated. The only way to get this rectified is to start calling. First, call the shop manager at the shop it was done. Explain the situation and ask if there is anything that can be done. If he/she is not helpful, ask for the Regional Manager's contact information. Contact that individual. In the meantime, send an email to their Corporate office. Worst case scenario is that they will not fix the issue. Best case, is they pull their heads out of their asses and take care of their customer. Another thing-mention that you will need to contact the Better Business Bureau to explain this issue to them. The point is, you paid for a service (should have made a stink about it at the time but) and they did not fulfill their end of the agreement. Good luck man.
