im sure this has been answered before, and ive searched like crazy but there are just too many posts to go through...

im missing a top left stud/bolt on the exhaust manifold... i know it may be broken and i'd have to back it out.. but what if it just because loose and fell out.. would i be able to just take the stud and screw it back in.. or do i have to remove the whole manifold first and then re-install all the bolts???

who cares?

i dont think theres a single dsm around here that isnt missing a manifold stud.. not worth the effort unless a few of them are broken off. if it just fell out then you wouldnt have to take the manifold off, it would just screw right in.. i doubt that is the case though, its probably broken in there, and if it is its not worth messing with imo

edit

the top left stud broke off when swapping the turbo off a friend of mines car last weekend, and that same stud is broken off another guy i knows car as well.. that one loves to break off it seems.. i wouldnt lose sleep over it

Heh thats one of FOUR I am missing right now. But of course mines at the machine shop cause my oil pump seized. SBR Stage 3 with big head hopefully on the way.

if only it where that easy.. im spewin somethin under the hood from that cuz i noticed it started gettin a bit sooty under my hood lately... it needs to be replaced :thumb:

There's no way the stud you are talking about could cause any leaks or anything. The center one on the bottom row of them has an oil passage behind it though. Chances are the manifold will have to be removed to repair this so I would either not worry about it or prepare for a few hours of fun :thumbdown

Dooooo Eeeeet, Man!

I put SS exhaust manifold studs on and it ended all of my ailments. One of those stud holes comes in contact with an oil passage and if you're not sane, you could honk that stud right on through the head. Don't install them with the manifold on the car. If you install SS studs, it will be the last time you ever have to mess with them, and if you bother to replace your manifold gasket (which you need to if you're already leaking sooty crap), then you'll need to take the manifold off anyway.

It's worth it, here's why.

My manifold is a piece of 2g crap. It went 127k miles pretty heavily ported... and then cracked all to hell. Sooty stuff everywhere. Oh yeah, my point... I used to have to take my turbo off the car to get to those studs because I'd break 'em with a swivel socket... I got my manifold off in less than 20 minutes because of the SS studs, with everything else still bolted on the car. I didn't strip a nut, snap a stud, strip the head, strip the stud or anything like that. Installation will be just as easy if you have a magnet (helps line up the washers on the bottom holes).

SS studs are worth every penny if you work on your own car. 6th time doing this job now, and this is the first time through it without breaking a stud. Didn't even use PB this time.
