Exhaust and Intake Recommendations?

Im thinking about getting Megan Racing Catback exhaust and an AEM V2 intake. anyone have any thoughts or experiences with these? Travis

An ebay intake would do the same job as an aem intake at less than half the cost. Same goes for an exhaust, you can find a catback system on ebay for $100 or less. It will work just as fine as the name-brand stuff.

i just want to make sure i buy something that will fit the car. sometimes ebay stuff doesnt match up. I will look into it though.

Many eBay parts don't match up, and it is good reason to be suspicious. Although, most eBay exhausts for 2g DSM's fit pretty well. I am using a 2.5" S catback from japamimportshop on eBay; it fit great, although I did have to slightly bend the muffler hanger to get the muffler tucked up into the bumper better.

Most eBay exhausts will cost you close to $200 shipped. I got mine for $180 shipped, a couple of years ago.

As for the intake, I agree completely with Dsmj89's statement - It is a pipe with a filter on the end of it. eBay will work just fine.

I got one and it sounds great.

The day after I got it isntalled, when I started it up, the deepness scared me.

Just remember thats a cold air intake so the filter should be right down by your front bumper where that little hole is. If you run into any puddles or anything and cover the filter with water your engine could be toast. A short ram will accomplish the same thing and you dont have to worry about water.

There were a couple short rams for around $35ish. Although the one you linked to looks like you could take the upper piping off and use the lower part by itself if you wanted to. Either way though you should probably get a K&N filter as well.

It's all fun and games til you run into a deep puddle.

true. in md we dont have many if any deep puddles. Its good. pot holes usually are fixed.

if you really want to do the cold air you could play it safe and get a bypass valve too.

While there is the increased risk of ingesting water with a cold-air intake, the solution is simple; Don't drive through large puddles, and a cold-air won't be a problem for you.

i got my 02/dp/catback from ebay over a year ago, and it's golding up great. not to mention that so far it's my fav sounding exhaust.

God another don't go through deep puddles thread. I live in IL I've driven through alot of rain with a CAI never had one problem. The filter can get wet, just not submerged.
I believe Locke already mentioned a pipe with a filter at the end will do, so Ebay works just fine. I think someone mentioned a bypass valve, I wouldn't bother, just drive smart (not through large puddles).

The AEM V2 CAI is way over priced. Granted, they do have a mean sound, but similar performance can be obtained by much cheaper brands.

The whole don't get them wet.... I think you'll be fine as long as your DSM doesn't double as a submarine.

I too am looking to upgrade my exhaust. I know X-Tune has a very nice sound, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for. Good luck on your hunting.

i had a v2 for a few months and didnt feel any difference from my ebay cold air intake.. and dont worry about hydrolocking your motor, as long as you dont go through water higher then your bumper..

There have been people on 2gnt that have hydrolocked by not submerging the filter completely. I never recommend a CAI for a 2gnt. The gains are not worth the risk. Maybe if there was like a 10hp difference, it would be a different story, but 1-2hp is not worth an engine. Stick with a short ram intake.
