Just bored and thought I would ahow the comparison between the two pistons. There are a few differences that are pretty noticeable, the most being the secound ringland on the evo 8 is quite a bit thicker.

The evo8 piston ia the used one on the rod. You can also notice the piston on the evo 8 has a longer skirt than whats on the evo 6. I guess tbis helps reduce the the load on the cylinder walls?
Another noticeable difference is the thickness of the oil control ring on the evo6 compared to the 8. You can also see this in tje above pucture. Besides the coating everything else is about the same. The evo6 is dished a bit more. Thats really all I can see. Heres more pics.

The 8's skirt wall also appears to be thicker in the area's near the wrist.

The 8 looks beefy and the 6 frail.....

Yea i see what your talking about. But it only.seems to be that way at the one end and not the other. Doea anyone know why the oil ring size was reduced and the ring land size was increased? They both seem to be made of the same material. And the.evo.6 piston is kind of light. I purchased the rods to use with my piston with some arp rod bolts in a 7 bolt. I figured it would be a pretty stout "oem" upgrade....minus the arp bolts.
