I have a set of EVO VIII wheels that need some tread sitting in my garage.

I am going to be getting 245/40/17s on them but have quite a bit of life on my 3g wheels im using now.

Fronts are 215/45/17 and rears are 225/45/17 (the tire shop decided to sell me 215s instead of 225s, wasnt happy when i realized it)

What are the downsides to tossing 225/45/17s on the Evo 8 wheels to get them on my car now, or just wait until i can buy some good tires later on?

Why the heck did they do that? With the same profile and wheel size but different widths the diameters would be different. you could put the bigger ones on front and go for a gasser look. LOL Don't go there again but if you do I would chew on someones ear.
I guess it would depend on how much life is left on the tires because some shops charge almost $20-25 to remove, mount, and balance. Cost wise it might be better to just burn them up and mount new tires on the evo wheels for later.

well right now the evo wheels dont have any tire...

The fronts on my car were bought last 4th of July, so they only have maybe 10k miles on them, the rears were on the car when i bought them. When i bought the fronts, the guy told me i should replace my back tires in 6-8 months... its been over a year and when i got my alignment, the shop said i will need to replace my back tires in 6-8 months...

LOL, so yeah, but i do know the rears are balding on the inside due to the rough camber i had prior to the alignment

which is why i was going to buy some Potenzas in December for my xmas present

I had some potenzas that replaced some goodyear eagles and it made a world of difference.
You could always sell them and get what you want. Tire prices have gone up and alot of people are running them till they are dead. If your going to keep the old rims use them for snow tires. LOL California. LOL Does it even snow there?

nah im going to be selling the old rims... snow tires... haha certainly not in southern cali

Honestly save up and just get 4 new wheels buying them seperates a huge pain and causes different wear on the tires due to each ones structure, design, and material. Trust me I did this for half a year due to insufficient funds and I always had my back tires going out. This was when the car was bone stock as well
